Ok, now what causes the clock on the ol computer to loose time?

I set it at 9 and at 12:18 it said 11:51.

Now that is 27 minutes in 3 hours.
What gives?
Old age? :D
This is on a 4 year old puter.

Thanks

Re: Puter clock

Don't feel alone SBN.My computers clock runs two hours early.I reset it and when I turn it back on the next day it's back to two hours early.I'm sure I'm a computer retard but I don't know what to do to change it.I reset it and it reads right until I shut down the dang thing and the next time I turn it on ,it's exactly two hours early.

Spinner, I have read somewhere that there is a battery that keeps the clock going and when this battery is on its last legs, the clock may slow down. take this with a grain of salt, as I am dumb when it comes to puters.......

The clocks on x86 motherboards are notoriously bad. There is no good way to make your computer clock keep time correctly without syncing it to a real timekeeper occasionally using a network protocol specifically designed to do this (NTP).

There are lots of freeware clients that do this for you (Non-Windows machines usually have them built-in on default installs), but I will warn you that many of them also have spyware attached.

My favorite is a very small program offered for free from NIST (really the atomic clock people in Boulder). Here is the link to it:
http://www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/service/its.htm
You can try others as well. Just let it set your computer clock occasionally and you will be about as accurate as you can be.

I'm not a puter guy... but have you checked what time zone your puter is set at? Since it only does it at boot up. Just a thought and probly not a very good one.
