I picked this thing up yesterday, got it for almost nothing ($20).

I got it from a guy who runs a auto repair shop. I'm not sure where it came from, but it's been in his shop for a while and the guys who work there have been messing around with it, I seen a guy doing burnouts (if you could call it that) on it four or five weeks ago.

The pull cords broken and the air filter is missing.

Even though the pull cord is broken, shouldn't it jump-start by rolling it down a hill? I tryed it on my driveway today and it wouldn't work. The belts on the wheel, it turns the spindal, but it turns very eazy. It feels like its not connected to the motor. Is there a clutch or something that I don't know about?

Pictures:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/goped/DSCF0208.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/goped/DSCF0207.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/goped/DSCF0206.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/goped/DSCF0205.jpg

Ryan,

I would guess that it must have a centrifugal clutch under the housing on the drive gear.

Yes, it probably has some sort of clutch and you're not actually turning the engine. Take out the spark plug and look in the cylinder with a flashlight. Roll it and see if the piston goes up and down. If it doesn't, then of course you're not turning over the engine. If it is turning over and it turns really easy, it sounds like there is no compression.

I did what ZmOz suggested,

With the sparkplug out, I moved the back wheel and looked in the hole with a flashlight, I didn't see any movement, so I guess thats good news.

The bad news is,
I have no freaken idea what DJ talking about, can anyone tell me in simple terms that my simple mine will under stand how to engage this clutch?

I'm pretty sure the engine has to be running to engage the clutch. Idle speed is not enough, you have to rev it a little to allow it to engage and off you go. Can you repair the pull starter?

I may be able to fix the starter cord, but not with the parts I have. Its missing whatever springs it back.

I wraped the starter cord around the rectangle thing and pulled it out, spinning it around a few times, and nothing happend.

Any other suggestions?

Is there any way you could use a drill to turn the engine over?

Ryan,

You cannot engage it, if it's centrifugal, without getting the engine running or at least turned up to a high rpm.

It works by weights being thrown outward by rpm. The weights are attached to clutch material that then engages the outer shell. That outer shell is then attached to the belt/chain drive gear.

if you can find an old lawn mower that you have to wrap the rope to start you could take that peice off and put it on in place of the rectangle peice, unless that rectangle peice has another purpose then just being part of the starter.

Ryan, I see you are in NY. Find a buddy with a snowmobile and have him show you how the clutch works on it. Basically it will be the same as your scooter.....You will have to get the recoil fixed and then start the motor. As RPM's go up, the centrifical clutch will close on the belt and the belt will begin to drive the wheel...A good lawnmower shop should be able to help you with the recoil..My son has one of those scooters. I will find the manual tonight and try to send you a diagram of the recoil starter..
