I just purchase a 36ft, 1972 traveleze trailer.
The floor in the tip-out area is rotted. If you stand on it with your whole weight, you will go through the floor.
I know how to repair it, but I wanted to know if there is any special flooring material to use, instead of just plywood?
Has anyone here replaced flooring in a trailer and if so, what did you use?
Also, any other tips would be helpful.
Thanks,
Brother Chris...

Okay Chris I'll bite.First you have to get the roof in tip-top shape!then finsh off with a product that is white and cost about 50 bucks(five gallon)(thats to protect your investment)then check the rubber seal that goes around the slide-out,it may need replacing.Depending what your going to do with this rig calls for an answer now.If you have the money and your going to live in it,go first class ,winter is on the way.You may consider going over the floor with quarter inch luan 4x8 and fiberglass over it,or tear out ,as you say you know how to repair. They made good trailers in those years and only your imagination will limit you.

Re: Travel trailer floor repair.

Thanks Bernieb.
I do plan on living in it come spring. I'm going to buy some property and build my home.
Oh, and it's not a slide-out, it's a tip-out. The older travel trailers did not have slide-outs.
The tip-out is annoying though....I mean it's handy, but when you close it up, the whole tip-out section is now in the living room.
I guess I won't be moving it around much anyways.
Cheers,
Chris...

They had tip outs in 1972? Or did someone add it later?

No idea when they started using tip outs, but my BIL bought an older travel trailer that has them and we replaced about half the floor in it. Pretty straightforward job really, we just ripped out the old and replaced it with exterior grade ply of the correct thickness.

Yeah, the company installed it when it was manufactured.
I think I am going to be doing the same as Relentless's BIL.
I dont' get the trailer until, either this weekend or next.
It doesn't seem that hard to fix, but I just wanted to know if there were any tricks to it.
And if someone had a trailer, it would not be that hard to add a tip-out to it.
