Here is the deal.
I've been buying on ebay for years and even have a paypal account set up. Although the credit card just expired this week. Which is good as that one has a 20K limit and Ive been a bit worried about it getting hacked into.

Here is what I've been told over the years and I'd like your input.

--------------------------------------
(1)
Some have said to use one user name for Buying and another for Selling. As it is easier to keep track that way?
--------------------------------------
(2)
Some have said to use a seperate checking/savings account only used for online
--------------------------------------
(3)
Some have said to use a credit card with a $500.00 limit in case it should get Hacked into
--------------------------------------

Could you all answer my three basic questions and feel free to add your input with pros and cons..

Thanks Link

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

1. No. There's absolutely no reason to do that.
2. No. If something happens to your second account, you'll end up loosing just as much money. As long as you're careful and don't give out all your info to random people, you're fine.
3. With most any credit card you're not liable for more than $50 if something happens.

Just use paypal for payments. PayPal is never going to get "hacked" into. Just understand that once you send money to someone, there's no guarantee that you'll get what you're paying for, and your purchase is not as guaranteed as paypal wants you to think. There is absolutely no reason to be worried about giving paypal any of your credit card/bank account information.

I would stronly suggest that your e-bay user name and password be unique only to e-bay and a differant password for paypal. If there ever was a failure you will have your own installed protection.

At least that is what I do.

Bob

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

Having bought and sold on ebay for a while, I am going to open a new account for selling only. I am doing this for privacy reasons, plus I like my rating on the account I have now, and I'll only use it for buying from now on.

No to the other two questions. I use Paypal connected to my debit card and a credit card. It is all very secure and I trust the system, plus I am small time and not worth the bother for a hacker......except someone tried to hack my account.....hmmmmmm Anyhoo they weren't successful.

don' worry abou-dit! ( you must say this in a heavy jersy accent)

really, unless you are gonna be a big time seller doing thousands of items, no need for any of it.

i buy and sell all day long, check my listings(name - myoutboards) anyway, its all good.

i have a pay-pal debit card, so anything i sell on ebay, i just get automatically transfered onto the card, this way i have no need to transfer to and from my bank account.

m ike

Link, I also buy and sell alot on ebay. My only advice is to be honest with your listing (some buyers will still complain), and take paypal payments, paypal takes a small percentage but you will get more bids and faster payments. And when I sell I always leave positive feed back as soon as I am paid. Most sellers wait for the buyer to leave feed back first that way if you have problems with the item or seller and leave them neg. feed back they will leave you neg. feed back.(and thats not right). My ebay name is tasbrus

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

Feedback is the final courtesy of a succesful ebay transaction. Here's how I handle feedback to ensure that I receive what I give; this goes to the buyer with the payment instructions;

Hi, and now a word about feedback. As the seller all I can say about you is, Thanks for the fast payment. However, as the buyer you can comment on the accuracy of the listing and pictures versus what you receive, my honesty, timeliness of delivery, quality of packing, shipping at cost as quoted, etc. Therefore,I post feedback for all buyers after we have received feedback from them. Your feedback verifies that the item has been received, you're satisfied, and the transaction is now complete. Thanks again, Ken

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

SlowlySinking,
Here is a quote from an action I won . "20 Horsepower Johnson / Evinrude Propeller. Fits all. Never Rebuilt. Like New Condition." When I recieved this prop it was obvious that it had been rebuilt and a poor rebuild at that. I emailed the seller Telling them if the prop did not preform properly I would like to return it. I got no reply. I tried the prop out (10X13 same prop I always use.) and my motor over reved and had no top speed.) I emailed the seller once again with no response.I paid them promptly and got no feedback, now if I leave negitive feedback to the seller I am sure they will leave me neg feedback in return. It has happened before.now I lost out on a pos. feedback that I should have gotten. And that is why I leave feedback as soon as I get paid.I have over 150 pos. feedbacks and 2 neg. my first neg came when I sold a Gibson guitar to a guy with a total feedback of -2 and I was warned by another ebayer not to sell to this guy.(he has since been banned from ebay) and my 2nd came when I bought a cd player for my truck and they sent me the wrong one so I had to pay for the postage to recieve it and send it back and I never recieved the correct one. they would not refund my postage so I left neg.feedback and you guessed it....they left me neg.feedback in return.

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

link, thank you for the choice words.

mike

ps, since we're on the EBAY subject... i have my motor listed, ACTUALLY ITS RE LISTED, on ebay right now. it was selling for 1500 dollars and change when at the last minute, the iwnning bidder withdrew stating that i " changed the ad" wich i did not do. the next 2 guys under him had already said thaey found a nother motor since the were outbid on this one, so needless to say, i lost 1500$ and now i have to RELIST it and try again. ebay can be a real pain in the arse

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

Hi One More Cast, that was a bad deal for you and I see your point about the timing of posting feedback and possible retaliation. I used to post 100% feedback as soon as payment was received, but my return percentage was about 50. With my new method I get almost 100%. The only good thing about negative feedback is you get to post a rebuttal. Savvy persons will read between the lines, remember, you can please some of the people all of the time, and all the people some of the time, BUT, you can't please all the people all the time. I feel that an ebay members overall feedback ratio is what potential bidders see, one negative amongst hundreds of positives speaks for itself. Keep buying & selling.

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

Thanks guys
Thats the kind of info I was also looking for.
If you don't know someone in person that sells you really don't know the small details like how to get pos feed back etc.

And the one person who told me about the seperate bank account does a ton of buisness on ebay.

One More Cast
I missed your user name the first time around. Got it up now and its nice to know you guys are as real/nice in person as you come over here on this forum. :)

ZmOz, Bob_VT, SoulWinner and SlowlySinking

Thanks guys, even though I didn't reply directly Mrs.Link and I read this whole post several times this evening.

Check out my post in dockside chat on Ebay negative feedback.

That woman is a psycho, it even says that in her feedback (not my words).

Be careful who you sell to. She claims she e-mailed me after she got it, but I never saw it, and after reading her feedback, she obviosly does not live in the real world.

My ebay name is kenimpzoom.

Ken

Wow

Ok well this brings up a question for you.
She has 3 negative and one neutral but in her feedback I don't see anything from you as a SELLER??
Yours has hers negative feedback.

Could you explaine that to me.

Type slow as I don't read so fast! :)

Re: Info needed for selling on ebay

I left her positive feedback as soon as she paid. She waited a month and half before she left me negative feedback.

You should see my reply to her negative feedback.

I could probably go through all the hoops to get those feedbacks changed, but it just isnt worth it. I have sold several things since then, and I am sure they will all be positive.

Ken
