Link, I think the gremlins are the little faces, like the one at the end of your post. Its like the avatars if you want to view them or not on your screen. But what do I know, I'm still typing with fore fingers.

True, but doing things like spelling out AT and putting spaces and words in between like:

oldnorse AT psogos DOT dontsendmespam,youSOB,com

will also help those of us who are smarter than those harvesters find your email. Of course, this doesn't help weed out manual harvesting, but should suffice for most of us. It also helps to have addresses you only use for certain purposes, like these forums and such.

I have posted my email address here several times, and it's also in my profile.
I have never received any spam, ever.

PS - does anyone else read Bondo's posts like they're some bizzare form a haiku or Zen aphorism or something? The way of the 350

You're very lucky then, Paul, although when you post addresses here, it's often the viruses that find you rather than spam.

I have been sent many viruses by someone on the forums here. The way the viruses find addresses to send themselves to is by looking in your address book *and in your Temporary Internet Files*, if you're using Windows. They find email addresses buried in cached html pages and use them. I know they are from this forum because I recognize some of the names and addresses from here, and I only use this email address for two forums and nowhere else at all.

Mabey noone ever reads my posts? :D

I'm just relating my experiences. It seems to me that the real problem are other's address books, and their's very little you can ever do about them. So long as people continue to practice irresponsible computing, spam is going to be a problem.

As for receiving virus mail, that's never happened either. 'Course, it's no problem since I don't use Outlook Express.

I love your posts, Paul! :D At least, I know for a fact that they're among the most useful ones. :) I can assure you that viruses use the TIFs on computers to find them and that they get sent from forum members. I don't even use Windows when I can help it, and all my email is picked up on one of my Linux boxen.

When the "genes" of 95% of users' computers out there are the same, it makes it pretty easy to spread a devastating disease. That fact's going to haunt us for some time, I'm afraid.

Ok, I'll concede. :)

I used to route my mail through my Linux box too, until my "service" provider blocked all port 25 (SMTP) operations. Then they blocked ping. I'm waiting for them to block WWW and FTP next!

All because of boneheaded users and their viruses...

Good information guys. Ya'll keep talking and I keep learning! :D
I know for a fact I got spammed with some emails
with virus's attached/embedded from people here last year but pc-cillin caught them and I figured it wasn't the people doing it so I just blew it off and it was all with in a 30 day period. 4 I think.

DUH! I just noticed the words "Instant Graemlins" above the little faces LOL
Man I do need to get out from under this rock!

I am guilty of posting my e-mail all the time but I've never recieved spam, my ISP filters it out. They charge me a fee for the service (2 bucks a month I think).

Aldo

Bondo - definitely the former! I'm just saying, the way I read them they have this air of absolute truth to them.
