Has anyone else had any problems with this system? I mean, sometime the system will malfunction and the vehicle will not start? But if you let it reset itself it will start up just fine. I consulted my owners manual and it said that is what it is suspose to do, but I hate it. Is there anyway to disconnect it, or disable it? I am not really concerned about it being stolen, but I need it to start when I turn the key.

Sounds like something has happened to the resistor in your key. Is it an aftermarket key? If passkey does not read the right resistance 3 times in a row, it will lock out the ignition system for I believe 30 minutes, before reseting itself. Did you purchase the car new? Can you go to the original selling dealer? They should have the passkey codes and can order you new blanks so you can get new keys cut. Have only run into this once before.

The new passlock systems depend on the type of vehicle. GM has gotten away from chip coding most keys. I would hit up the dealer for some solid answer. Any number of things could be going on.

Bob

It is a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLE. When it fails to start, I have to wait 10 minutes, then it will usually start. It always starts, but it is just emabarassing.

your key might be getting worn you might try getting a new one made at a dealership. and when there ask them about your problem they have the newest updates on the computer

Is there a way to disable it all together? My owners manual says something about a fuse.

If it was easy to disable it would make the whole point of it useless - it is an antitheft device.
