Can someone give me a clue as to why I cannot get the iboats home page or forums on my home PC (Pentium III with broadband, 512mB ram and 60gB hard disk... works well on everything else) yet it works on my home office PC which is to the same spec? I'm stumped...

Perhaps your wife installed a firewall that blocks out all sites related to boats. Kind of a money saving device, so she can spend more on clothes. :)

Try this...in internet address bar type

209.63.105.10

that is the iboats ip address. If you get to site it is a problem with your name to ip resolution (DNS or LMHOSTS file). If you can't, it is a problem with ip routing. Let me know your results.

-JustMrWill

Do a google search for "iboats" then click on the link.

Sounds like you are not entering the address correctly.

Re: iboats... home PC won't find?

I tried again this last weekend and all I get is a "Page cannot be found" message on my internet explorer. I tried a Google search for 'iboats'... brought up lots of pages to try but none of the iboats ones worked. Then tried 'boating forums' and again google found heaps of references but when I clicked any link with 'iboats' in it the "page cannot be found" error message came back after a long wait. Maybe it is my other half who's barred it! I also tried putting 209.63.105.10 straight into the address menu bar and hitting enter... again, "page cannot be found." Frustrating!

KiwiPhil (in Brisbane) had the same problem when he first got broadband - he only had the problem with the i-boats site. I don't know how he fixed it but he did do a lot of research. I've got his e-mail, I'll contact him and ask. I believe its a problem with the Aussie ISPs'.

Aldo

Triton let some one e-mail you the link and see if that will connect.

Either your own security settings are blocking the iboats IP specifically, or your service provider is.

Do you go through a proxy server with your internet connection at home?

I'm connected to broadband using optusnet.com.au. Not sure about proxy servers and such.

My email is mdbarnett@optusnet.com.au so if someone could email me the link, I'll check it out. Thanks,

Re: iboats... home PC won't find?

I browsed through your ISP instructions for setting up the network connection. They did not mention the use of a proxy server. It is possible that they are inadvertently blocking iboats.com IP address on their end.

Are you by chance running a hardware or software firewall at home?

Hi AMD Rules,

No firewall that I know of, however my three teenage boys play around on it so who knows? I'm computer tolerant, but not literate... bit like my boating! LOL. :D

Mark.

Launch your browser...then
Tools
Internet Options
Security
Restricted Sites
sites

Look to see if there's an entry for iboats...

BTW, It would help to know the version OS you're running and what version of MIE you have too..

OS is Windows 2000 Professional. Will check MIE when I get home and the Security settings as you suggest (it's 1320 local time here right now). Thanks.

Make sure that if you have parental controls the site is not blocked by it. Software like Guardian Monitor may find some words on the forums on the banned list and block the site. Products like Guardian Monitor can give the "website not found" screen rather than right out tell you the site is blocked so they don't give away their presence when running in stealth mode.

Mark.

Mark, just heard back from Phil, bad news - he hasn't been able to fix the problem. He did say though that it only occurs with i-boats and that sometimes he doesn't have any problems.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help :(

Aldo

If xcusemes help did not work try disabling your firewall and virus protection and hit the iboats link. If it gets you in you may have to remove and re install the firewall and virus programs.

Try this. While in IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, General tab, Settings (Temporary Internet files), and make sure the radio button for “Every visit to the page” is selected. Then Delete Files (Temporary Internet files). Then Tools, Internet Options, General tab, Delete cookies.

This should clear out any bad references to iboats and grab a new page upon first visit.
