Question: i have this 1994 jeep grand cherokee with a automatic transmission rebuilt with about 20k on it, i put that lucas transmission stuff in it as was wandering if it would do any harm to the unit, it is shifting kind of strange it seems to down shift at a higher speed now. was thinking of draining it out and putting the auto trans fluid back in it, what do you guys think should i leave the lucas stuff in there or drain it? thanks for any replys!

Re: transmission jeep

Yes, MOPAR transmissions are very unhappy with anything but ATF+3 or 4. Some guys on a Jeep forum I go to swear by Amsoil but there is always somebody who will swear by almost anything.I don't know about the Lucas stuff, but most oil additives are crap. You might want to go to the shop that did your rebuild and see if they think it should be flushed. I know some guys on the Jeep forum have had to do that to get rid of additives.

Here's a link on ail additives:

http://www.landlinemag.com/Archives/2003/Jul03/equipment/maint_qa.htm

I'd seen this before and wasn't sure I could still find it.

A few years ago, Consumer Reports completed a 3 year study on oil change intervals using New York City taxis. They were testing to see if how much difference there was in engine wear between a 3,000 mil interval and a 7,500 mile interval. There test showed no significant difference. I remember that they also ran some of the cabs using an oil additive but I can't remember which one. These cabs also had no significant difference in wear.
