My boss just ordered me of these. Anyone have any opinions on the WIFI browsing capabilities? I am familiar with the rest as I have had a Palm before. Just want to know how browsing different sites work..

It depends entirely on how good the available bandwidth is in your area, as to how fast it works of course. The browser will only show a small portion of a standard website at a time - you need to scroll around it to see the whole picture. It's much better for sites that are optimized for handheld devices (ie small screen size) - of which there are many around (locate on google).

If you're patient, you can run most web sites. It won't replace your PC however.

I'm currently using a Microsoft PocketPC type unit (I-Mate) which runs a cut down version of Internet Explorer - but I believe the browsing capabilities are similar to the Palm.

The primary wifi use will at my house which is pretty good. Checking e-mail etc.. I will primarily use the unit for calendaring, managing contacts, normal PDA stuff. The wifi is just a bonus.

How do I find sites that are optimized for this usage?

you have too google em...i have a laptop freeware product called

network stumbler it searches for wifi connections - the thing is most wifi is only about 30-50 feet at best.

There are many "hotspots" around some you have to be a member of - like I am a t-mobile hotspot member, company pays an extra $10 a month on the mobile phone bill - I get connectivity at all the starbucks, barnes and nobles, borders and others.

WIFI is not a bonus - it is a boon - it frees you up to do what you want to do where you want to do it.

Do you want to go to get out of the house/office and grab a cup of joe? no problem just go...

Some people think that this means you are working all the time, but in reality you are working where you want...to me its freedom

I have a Pocket PC from Telecom here. It is a FALCON but manufactured by Audiovox and sold by them as a PPC5050 overseas.
It is a fully featured cellphone as well as a PC. Mobile internet is good but as 62kiwi said you can't see all the screen at once so you have to dance around the screen to see everything.
It runs a lot of microsoft software that has been optimised for these things but some features have been cut from some applications to simplify them.
As a contact address book (using MS Outlook) is is brilliant and easy to use.
Phone calls can be initiated straight from contacts without having to enter the phone # separately.
Syncronising with the decktop is as simple as placing it it the cradle.
This has an SD card installed for backup so it won't suffer the same fate as my PALM did: total wipeout. EEEK.
Good luck with it.

Regards
Peter

I just got my Tungsten and got it connected. I guess I'll keep it since I can get Iboats on it. In fact I am entering this on it. Very cool and it surfs surprisingly well. I love new toys..
