It's inevitable - whenever I finnish up a project, I always have leftovover mortar or thin-set, or cement or similar.

What do you do with the extra?

I don't feel comfortable pouring it down a drain - even if it's a pound or two left over so I usually end up pouring it under a drain pan under a rain gutter or something to level it back up... Just curious what others do.

I dilute it with water until there is really nothing left, then dump it in a remote part of the yard and let the lawnmower take care of whats left.

I have diluted it somewhat, poured it out in some obscure point in the back, broke it up when hardened, and added it gradually to the trash. If you have a great deal, this wouldn't be practical.

You folks don't have dirt roads around your part do ya? :) If I wasn't putting it in somepart of my driveway I would pour it on a dirt/gravel road. It wouldn't hurt anything and might even help.

jsfnn, I use to pour mine down the drain once it was diluted until I ended up having to replace a section of drain. Now I look for any masonary cracks and fill them. Now that they are pretty much filled, I just dump it out in a cardboard box and toss it away.

Find a low spot in the backyard and bury the stuff.

on our construction jobs, the concrete guys always have extra, or need to clear the slick lines. they dump in on the ground and let it set. few days later, it's broken up with sledge hammers and disposed of in dumpsters.

In the trash or out in the wooded area of my lot. Cement or lime based stuff goes outside, solvent based stuff goes in the trash, which ultimately goes to the transfer station and incinerator. All nuclear waste is recycled for boat fuel...

Jinx, where are you? From your profile, it looks like you're somewhere near the Rappahannock.

I'm in Fairfax.

My Dad used to make what looked like piles of dog crap after he painted them brown. Then he would place them in 'discreet' places around the house or one of his friends houses as a joke.

I came up with a real good idea a couple of years ago.
I took all the dry leftover cement I had and lifted the paving slabs out back and spread a layer of dry cement/sand mix under them. It stopped the ants a treat!
