You can't. Never buy anything on ebay you can't afford to lose...and if it's something expensive, only buy from someone who has been an ebay member for over a year and has alot of good feedback.

Re: ebay question

I make it a rule not to buy anything expensive on ebay without collecting it from the seller in person.

This is the only way I find that I can garuantee what I'm getting- Once I won an auction for a 50hp mercury described as a "good runner-1980's" and it turned out to be 1974 and so badly siezed that even the distributor was locked solid.
Luckily I went to collect that myself and told the guy where to get off.

Re: ebay question

you cant"guarantee" anything on EBAY!!!

if you pay through paypal, you do get buyers protection. its sort of like an insurance if something is not as advertised. i have used it twice. i refuse to buy anythging from anybody that doesnot accept paypal. they can have what ever little petty" they stole my account" or" my bank wont allow it" excuses they want. point is, if they want my money bad enough, they will use pay pal.

and when i sell, wether or not im selling outboard parts, house hold goods, or digital items such as movies and music and software, i always use paypal for my listings so the buyer can pay with ease!

protection...?
ZMOZ: just cause they were a seller for over a year and have good feedback, doesnt mean they aint gonna move to mexico and steal your cash and ship you nothing. its a risk. use common sense and try to be wise. if its a sellers first time sale, and they offer no pics for the item, dont send them a check for a thousand dollars and then wonder where your new jet ski is!?!?!?!?!

if they dont have pics, they obviously dont want my money bad enough.

if they dont answer emails, the dont want my money bad enough.

if they dont have any details on the ad, they dont want my money bad enough.

etc
etc
etc
...................

i buy an sell all the time, at least once or twice a week.....

i put the most info i can into my ads, including my phone numbers here at home and how and when i can be reached( see link below ). ebay can be a scary place, and i try to make my customers feel at ease as much as possible. i am not out to scam ANYBODY at all. i enjoy doing what i do and i would like to continue if possible. its taken me 2 years to earn the 175 plus feedbacks i have, and im not doing anything to tarnish that... my other names had like 2 or 3 feedbacks each.....

one particular motor i sold, you can tell, i wasnt out to cheat ANYBODY! ! ! ! ! !

so walleyehead: dont be scared. my username is MYOUTBOARDS, look me up and read my past sales and feedbacks. i stand tall and proud! i just wish others would too!!!

mike

Yes, but it's much less likely than someone who signed up last week and only has a couple feedbacks from their friends.

As for paypal, don't believe the BS they tell you about "protection". I've lost around $500 in various paypal transactions that were supposedly protected. Paypal couldn't care less about you or your money.

Re: ebay question

I guess we all know ebay bought out paypal, so really, it's just a payment form for ebay, and they have total control.

Re: ebay question

A while back I bought a gold Rolex on eBay. That size purchase will greatly increase your pucker factor. The guy that I bought from had sold several Rolexes and had excellent feedback.

I emailed everyone he had sold to and asked for comments/complaints/criticism/praise, etc. The response I got back was phenomenal. No negative comments whatsoever, only praise. I was also able to locate some of these folks using Yahoo!/People search which somewhat verified their uniqueness.

Anyhoo, I received said Rolex and took it to a local authorized Rolex dealer for verification.

Overall, a very good experience, although a bit scary.

Re: ebay question

You misunderstood what I meant there, Mike...
I was just saying ebay owns paypal, and maybe, just maybe, sooner or later, someone is going to run into the same name of that who has been banned.

Re: ebay question

eBay is a great marketplace...especially for the odd items that you can't find locally. I have bought a half dozen items and had one bad experience. Don't think there was any malice involved, just a nitwit kid for a seller that couldn't get his act together long enough to ship the item. Have had one sale and it was successful beyond my wildest dreams...took a personal check from someone 700 miles away. It cleared two weeks ago & he has yet to contact me about picking up his stuff. Odd to say the least.

Re: ebay question

I have over 300 transactions on Ebay over about three years, Plus another 50 or so for the guy I work for, been took twice, once for $8.00, (My fault, I took a chance), Once for $80.00, That was for parts I bought for the Elcamino that were so bad I just threw them in the garbage can, (I took a chance on those also), but they no longer have 100% feedback! Matter of fact, they were all separate Items, so they got like 6 negative feedbacks which put there feedback rating way down there. They had already given me good feedback for paying quickly so I didnt suffer any reprecussion. So, I would have to say that if you are carefull, you will be fine.

Re: ebay question

Hey, how about we stick as close as possible to the topic question and not worry about how we can "get around" the system.
I don't feel this is the place to teach all how to cheat, or maybe I should say "how to trick the system". what you do is your business, right or wrong.
Let's leave it at that, please.
