I was driving away from the ranch yesterday when I heard the most awful metal on metal brake noise. I was in traffic so I looked around hoping somebody else was the originator. The noise sorta followed me around till I turned around and drove back home. On the way back the noise quit but I still got home and removed all the wheels and checked the brakes to find that they are in excellent condition. Anything like this ever happen happen to you? I coulda swore it was from my truck, but it weren't. Weird. Chief ;)

Re: False alarm

My work truck's brakes (2000 F-250 4x4) are really 'touchy' and make a bit of noise sometimes. It's after sitting for the weekend and lasts for several brake applications but then it goes back to normal. It's done it since it was new. It's a grinding type of noise too...

Re: False alarm

I have a 1990 F250 with over 300k. I am easy on the brakes(on the 4th set), original clutch(getting a little t'out and pilot bearing squeak lately). The noise I heard was definitely metal to metal and loud. I hope it was someone Else's, as it freaked me out enough to tear into my brakes. I think my hearing isn't as good as it used to be...Chief

Re: False alarm

If you have those cheap rotors, drums [chinnie] they can rust overnight and the rust and pads, shoes make some kind of noise until you clean all the rust off with applying the brakes several times while driving it cleans off no more noise and they look brand new The longer they sit the worse they get and if it rains even more rust

Re: False alarm

nothinbig, I'm scairt to give this truck orders as it's treated me well so far.<br />dolluper, I don't use cheap parts on this truck, and these are the original rotors, and oem pads. Same for the rears. I just redid the brakes 2 years ago and they are at more than 75%. The brakes are good, so no worries...I did pass up a good day on the river to tear the brakes down..Chief ;)
