Well I got the garage pretty much cleaned out enough to be usable and got some power out there.(also getting ready for our new pool to come the 28th) I still have to wire up my welder and a few more lights. I have the Bonniville down to the frame and motor and now its hunt down parts time. Later....

yea Bob, But what most people don't realize is that many of the oil puddles were due to the automatic chain oilers and total loss oil systems on some of those old bikes. However I don't think I have ever owned an old bike that didn't weap a little oil somewhere....That big oil spot in the photo came from removing the oil tank.

Re: project Triumph over and out

Thanks dolluper but what I am looking for for this one is aftermarket and custom stuff. It looks like I will have to fabricate a bunch of it. I want to do a complete mock up and get all my tabs and such tacked in place before removing the motor and tranny for a check up and/or rebuild.

Re: project Triumph over and out

Hey OMC I rebuilt one about 14 years ago for a local biker. He only wanted the motor done and he brought it to me in a milk crate in pieces of course.

The guy was insistant that he would install it himself in the frame. Well it ran great until it started to squeeeeeel... instead of stopping he gave it more throttle and it died.

I was blamed at first.... until I opened up the motor and found rust clogging the oil screen. The genius had stored the frame outside without oil in the tank. It rusted real bad and of course broke apart as soon as the oil started flowing. Clogged the screen up completely and cooked the motor.

The guy apologised when I showed him the screen and fessed up about not checking the tank.

Bob

Re: project Triumph over and out

Here it is 2 months later and all I have accomplished is now I have four frames, another tank, velocity stacks that don't fit, a front end off a Yamaha and a few other parts. My Arthritis is really holding me back. Just changing blades on the mower kills me for the whole next day. I have a feeling I will be selling a bunch of Triumph parts on ebay pretty soon. My body just won't let me do it.

Go to the local Walmart and by a bottle of MSM 1,000 Mg. 100 count. Take five of them in the morning, and five of them with lunch, and five of them with dinner. 15,000 units a day. It may losen your bowls some at first. That will last you about a week. If you feel better, get in touch with me and I will show you where you can get it in bulk form and its just about $10.00 a pound. Very cheap unlike taking pill form. Type MSM in Google and you can read for a lifetime. Its deffinatly worth a try. Works for me. The secret is in the massive doses. Its a food, and you cannot OD on it. Your body will just use what it can. Its basically a Sulfer, Purified DMSO.

Re: project Triumph over and out

Oct.update. Well the MSM didn't work but I scored a drug plan that allowed me to go on enbrel injections. After just one shot along with with my other meds I'm back into this project. My goal now is just to get a bike together to sell. I found another bike on ebay without a motor and I liked the way it looked and when I called the guy he told me the reserve price and I got it for that. A little high but very usable and will save me a lot of work. Wednesday morning at 4:30 am I headed out to pick up my parts. Over to VT and then NH and came home via the Mass. turnpike due to flooding in VT/NH. I got home at 8:30 pm.
After a couple of days to recoup I am still feeling pretty good so today I did a mock-up. Here is what I came up with.
Its a real ******* bike LD. 68 motor, 65 frame,57 pipes, harley seat , aftermarket rear fender, hex oil tank, honda front end and wheels... I may put on a BSA front end with a 21" spoked wheel and a 16" hog wheel in the back.I'm not real fond of the 18" mag in the rear along with the 16" mag in the front.

Good progress on the bike. I always wanted a Bonneville but by the time I could get one, there were no local dealers and I had kids. Toys have a way of changing when you have kids. Good going on the drug plan score. My wife has been on Enbrel about a year and a half. Since it's an imunosuppressant, she has to go off it if she has any infection like tonsillitis. Otherwise it does real well.

Looking good OMC!!

I agree with you on the wheels, it would look a lot better with chrome spokes.

Project Triumph comes to an end. I sold my '57 on eBay and will be delivering it to NC in a month or so and the '68 plus all my other Triumph stuff was sold locally and loaded up and taken away yesterday. Lets see how long I can go without a bike in the garage this time!

You know what the cure for that feeling is One More......You have to buy another! :D And to all the folks that are unaware, that oil puddle isn't just another oil puddle. That's a kick a$$ bike marking it's territory! :D Sweet ride ;)
