Bending baseball cap bills

[KRS]

I am headed back to Gunsite (anyone else been there?) and need to bend a baseball cap bill.<br /><br />How do people bend them and get them to stay?<br /><br />Any ideas?

Put the bill into a large glass, like a beer stein. Leave it that way for a few days or so.

Just wet it first, when it dries, its ready for wear.

Good size rubber band or the glass method both work. If you have the time.... spray (saturate) the cap with spray starch and let it dry.<br /><br />We used to use those methods in the Army. Any former Marine will give you "blocking" instructions too.<br /><br />Gunsite as in Cooper's place?<br /><br />Bob

Mine always got bent from folding them in half so they would fit in my back pocket while riding my motorcycle. I never heard of anyone doing it as a fashion statement. Maybe I better go to the city and see if I can find a copy of GQ.

I learned alot about covers in the marine corps. Used a plastic block, more to form the crown. Starch was used on everything. We also had a garrison cover, this had a leather bill. Use to have to spit shine it with polish, same as our shoes. Now they alow patten leather, shine is already in it. AAAhhh the good ole days. The fashion statement I make now is I hide my uncombed hair. Throw the cap on and I'am ready to go.

Wow, lots of responses. Yes Gunsite as in Colonel Cooper's place, you been there?<br /><br />The Arizona August sun is unbearable and I need to cover my eyes as much as possible during the daytime outside field work.<br /><br />I will try a combination of all methods above, soak the hat in starch and water, bend it, and place in into a large mug to dry.<br /><br />If it goes straight while I'm using it.... I'll remember who you are hehehe Thanks for the info.

You have to be kidding, My friends and I "lifetime baseball players" have formed hundreds of baseball cap bills you don't use water it's not a cowboy hat you do it by hand to your individual liking some like a flatter curve some like rounder curve once you have it to your liking it's good to go maybe an occasional tweak.

I always take my to one of them "Gentle Men's Clubs" and wrap the bill around oops I know family chat.

Oh yeah after I left I bend it in the shape I want but it is a good reason to get up close with the hat shaper if ya know what I mean!!!
