I have a shower head that articulates, it has a ball joint that is sealed by a rubber gasket (3/8" thick) that is concave to match the ball joint's shape. This joint leaks a little, so I tighten it and the joint won't articulate.<br /><br />Question is.... what to lube this with? <br /><br />Petroleum Jelly- or will that break down the rubber?<br /><br />What can I use?<br /><br />Thanks!

Re: Shower Head

There is a food grade grease (will not hurt seals or rubber) used on ice cream and milk shake machines. Go and ask your local McDonalds manager for some in a ketchup cup.<br /><br />Bob

Re: Shower Head

The shower head attaches to the standard 45 degree shower nipple pipe (chrome) from the wall, no leakage. Yes on the teflon tape, always a good idea. It's where the ball joint compresses against the rubber that it's leaking.<br /><br />Me: "Yes (16 year old McDonalds' manager) I'd like a cup of grease!"<br /><br />Manager: "Large order of fries, coming up!"<br /><br /> :D

Petroleum jelly will break down the rubber...better use the Mcd's lube.

Moen faucets use a silicone lube that looks like a thin type of vaseline.I would stick to that.Charlie

Ditto to CC, or visit a pool shop and get a tube of teflon/silicone pool filter oring lubricant. It's always good to have around the house and will work well for what you are doing. Vasiline will do the job until it breaks down the seal.

Petrolium jelly is not good for rubber. I would use a silicone based lube (Sil-glide comes to mind) or Lubriplate.
