Have any of you ever sold a car on Ebay. If so how did the transaction go?

Thinking of selling my 1971 Corvette on Ebay. I am tired of showing it. It was fun for a while but that changed after placing first.

Re: Selling a car on Ebay

First off, send pictures, information and price to, rays-shop1@juno.com, the guy I work for may be interested. Is it NCRS Original?

I have sold two cars on Ebay, Both went well. You just have to be as honest as you can be, require a $1,000.00 "Non-refundable deposit before you let the winning bidder even see the car. (OK to let people see it durring the auction). Just make sure you cover all the bases. Look at other auctions on similar cars and see how they are done.

Hey, Im serious about the pictures. Make sure you resize them to about 400 X 400 befor you send them though, Im still on dial up.

I bought one on Ebay and I was very happy. Actually I let the auction expire and then emailed him seperately as it didn't meet his reserve. I understand a lot of deals go down this way. I would suggest that a well written add with very good pics will dramatically improve your chances of getting what you want out of the car. Good luck. Let us know when you list it.

Do ebay. Set a reserve. Good descript, good pix. Run maximum amount of time. Set a start time so that auction ends at 9pm eastern (6pm left coast)for a good bid war. Set up some way of shipping, delivering. Set up a PayPal account. Do a no refund $1000 deposit within 3 days, or it goes to the next bidder. Only accept bids from US, with positive feedback of 5 or more. Check daily for any new bidder, and check their feedback. cancel the bid if you see trouble. You are in charge. Ignore overseas bids or scam emails, or ANY phony scam questions in emails. Ignore ALL emails from ebay asking for info...scams. Ignore all PaypaL questions asking for info...scams. Only answers questions through "My ebay" at the site. Scamming is rampant at home email if you are new to this. Friend bought a 71 frame-off from Az to Ill no prob. I sold mine a while back. Still miss it! Neighbor 2 down has a red 71. Good luck!

But what is it, Roadster, coupe, small block or big block, auto or 4 SP. is it an LT1, or just your regular run of the mill Corvette?

Re: Selling a car on Ebay

I've sold a few cars and a LOT of other large items over the past few years on Ebay. I've learned that I get top dollar on Ebay if I sell for $1 minimum bid, NO reserve. It takes some guts to list that way as you feel like you're taking a big risk, but I have ALWAYS come out money ahead when I did that. It drums up SOOOOO much interest and SOOOO many watchers in the early days of the auction, you just can't help but have a huge bidding war in the final hours. The market will always set a great price. For even better success, I'll often cross-promote by paying for a few local ads in newspapers and auto sales publications....put your Ebay item number in the classified ad and make sure the timing is right. That'll get a whole bunch of local people interested and will drive the bid up higher. I've also learned that you get paid by the word. The more you write and the more photos you post, the more money you get. List EVERY tiny flaw. Also, pay the little bit extra for an extended time auction, have Ebay run it for the longest time they'll let you. Every day longer is more money in your pocket. Marketing, marketing, marketing....

If you've never done it before, I highly suggest "practicing" on some low dollar items to sell first so you understand how it works. And make darn sure your account has a history of 100% positive feedback.

Re: Selling a car on Ebay

i sold a 1977 gmc 3/4 ton pickup on ebay that i had gotten for free and after 300 dollars investing into it, got over 1100 dollars plus gas money and dinner money for delivering it over 150 miles away.

yes i had to pay the absurd ebay sellers fees for selling a vehicle, but i got WAY more for it by advertising it to millions of people instead of a local sale.

i took a picture of the truck from EVERY angle. uder the hood, at the dash, inside, both doors, roof, all 4 wheels close up to see tread, etc etc et c etc etc .

i also told the EXACT truth , in detail, about every thing on the truck, what is broken, what is not. buyers like more detail and truth, than just simply stating " good condition, email for questions"

just be honest and let it ride. and have fun, its lots of fun!

Re: Selling a car on Ebay

I just bought a 2005 Pacifica off of Ebay day before yesterday. A little scary buying something from someone you've never met and something never seen. The seller had about 20 pics of the car from every angle. He also attached a CarFax report for the bidders to read. That was A+

But what made me feel more comfortable was the feedback the seller had. He had all positive feedback from real bidders. You can click on the ebay user ID and see that they have bought and sold items I believe.

I had two days to provide a non refundable $1k deposit thru paypal. I have five days to get the remaining balance to him, I sent that via fed ex last night. After the auction, he and I spoke to confirm how we would handle paperwork and getting the car from Houston TX to Sacramento.

So far I'm happy. Oh, and don't do this. He told me he made a mistake and inadvertently lowered his reserve on the car I bought when he meant to do it on another. I saw the lowered price and clicked on the buy it now option. He told me his mistake AND honored the price I won the car for. He said I got the car for pretty much his cost.

Dave

I've done it. Sold two Camaros on a "twofer" deal.

Just be honest.

Make sure you undestand the e-bay fees before you list. The fees can be substantial, on a high dollar item, especially auto's.

They simplified it....
Insertion and Transaction Service Fee
Category Insertion Fee Transaction Services Fee
Passenger Vehicles $40.00 $40.00
Motorcycles $30.00 $30.00
Powersports $30.00 $30.00
Pocket Bikes $3.00 $3.00
Other Vehicles $40.00 $40.00
So $40 to list, and $40 if sells. Plus a couple bucks for pix, etc At least thats what the fees look like at the site.

Went and looked again. Heres the scoop...

You pay only an Insertion Fee and a Transaction Services Fee to list a vehicle on eBay Motors. The Transaction Services Fee is charged when the first bid is made or your reserve price is met. There is no additional fee charged after the vehicle is sold. eBay Motors vehicle listings are those within the Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, Powersports and Other Vehicles categories.

It will cost some more for longer listings, fancy listing, etc.

If you list it properly the exposer will be tremendous and you will get top dollar. What I do is go to the completed like items auctions and see why some get many hits while others get few and use that information to structure my auction.

On a rowboat, that might be a little steep for advertising nationwide, but a 71 corvette, with a nationwide ad is dirt cheap at the same $80 plus small fees. Have to put things in perspective.

Sorry for taking so long in answering your questions LubeDude but fishing prevails. Small block, auto, ac, power steering and stainless steel sleeved calipers.

The reason I am looking at selling on e-bay is to eliminated all of the locals who just want to drive a Corvette.

I e-mailed the picture.

Thanks for everyones input!!
