Does anyone make a fitting that would allow tires (bike, motorcycle, boat trailer) to be filled from paintball CO2 tanks?

Thanks.

Try bicycle shops. When I was cycling I carried several Co2 cartridges with an adapter and only a small hand pump for emergencies. they work great and gave me instant 100 psi for road tires.

Again...you're talking about a small disposable cartrigde. The amount of CO2 in one of those little things is about equal to a fart. It will have almost no effect on a car/trailer tire.

No, not talking about the small cartridges measured in grams, talking about the 9 oz - 20 oz cylinders. My fault, shoulda been specific...

Bondo, I've seen the $175+ units sold for 4x4ers, wondering if I can convert some CO2 tanks of my own...

ZMOZ, I think that you, bondo, and I are talking about the same thing. I've seen regulators, but typically only has fittings for other stuff not a tire inflator.

Yes, they do make them for standard 20oz paintball tanks to fill up tires or use any other air tool. Search google. I believe it was made by a company that also makes inflatable tents.

Remember than even a 20oz tank will only fill up about 1 tire...

here's the system to use with the larger 20# Tanks

http://www.expertoffroad.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=2-OA-XDSYSTEM

I'd use CO2 system if I were going to need to run air tools a lot, and also have a backup onboard air system... all depends how often you think you'll need air.

If you plan on using this a lot, a york compressor will put out 10cfm at around 2500 rpm, if you have room under the hood to add it

If you just need to fill some tires every once in a while, thomas has some great 12 volt compressors

Start by doing the math. 1-atm is 14.7-psi. If your paint ball cylinder will fill to 147-psi, you have 10-times it’s volume in there. A tire at 30-psi has about twice it’s volume in it. You should be able to guesstimate if your cylinder has the volume and pressure needed to get the job done.

Something else to keep in mind is that when compressed air is released it drops dramatically in temp, condenses the air molecules. You may be filling your tire with cold air that will expand, thuus increasing the tire’s pressure as the air in it warms to ambient temp.

Unfortuneately that won't work for CO2. CO2 is a liquid in the tank at around 800 PSI. It stays there until most or all of the liquid is gone and then the pressure quickly drops off.

I looked into using paintball tanks for air tools a while ago and found that one standard 20oz tank is about equal to 8 gallons of 100psi air if I remember correctly.

Re: does anyone make a product that....

Personally, I would not use CO2 for tires or inflateables. Several years ago when I was working at a country club, they wanted baloon drops put up in the ball room. The "new improved" manager said to use the drink systems CO2 instead of air.

We filled about 2,000 baloons and had all the work done by about 2 in the afternoon. By 10 pm the baloons had decreased in size and were starting to fall out of the netting. Yeah, it was a disasterous event. The manager got mad at me putting the blame on me. I told him that is why air is used instead of CO2. Temperture plays a big roll on its pressure. When it is hot the pressure increases, when it is cold (such as that evening) the pressure decreases.

As for air tools on CO2 would be expensive, but it is great since it does not have any moisture content in the gas.

Those small 12 volt compressors are great for inflating small tires. However if the bead is broke, you problably won't be able to have enough air pressure to seal the bead. A combination of a small compressor and an air storage tank is ideal for a quicker fill for a common size vehicle tire. It took 30 minuets for me to pump up a 235 x R70 x 15 tire once, but it did get me back on the road again.
