You forgot to notify big brother of your absence and the over-ride logic alerted snapperbait to institute protective measures.....

SBN,

Are you locked out of the drive itself, or an individual floppy disk?

Not yet, that was my next step and maybe check to see if diskette drive is enabled.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. No luck. Will take a smarter person than I to figure this one out.
I cleared the NVRAM with no luck after restart then I went through the making sure diskette was enabled with no luck after restart.

Oh well, I don't use floppys anyway, was just trying to open grandson's homework to print for him.

Tectoosweet, when we are down in the cellar, I just look at your posts as someone without a life.

But when I am up here, it is for some useful information, so if you do not have anything relevant to say, please refrain from replying to my posts.
Thanks

Sniff, Sniff, OK, Gee, you really know how to hurt a guy. Where is this cellar place? Maybe I can find a life there. ;)

Re: Floppy drive ?

Double check the connections to your floppy drive. Have they been recently disconnected?

It is -very- common to accidentally hook up the data cable backwards.

Some floppy drives do not have a complete enclosure, and the rotating parts are exposed. Make sure nothing is interfering with the rotation.

BB may be right...I've seen a lot of busted drives.

Re: Floppy drive ?

Bet you're using Windows XP. I was researching an unrelated topic and read an article about locking out floppy drive access accept by the system administrator. I will see if I can find the information and send you a link.

Hey spinner try this

click on my computer. Highlight floppy drive and right click and choose properties. Click on hardware tab. Highlight floppy drive then click on properties. Go to device usage and select use this device (enable)

Hope this helps.

Re: Floppy drive ?

Hey Ralph, tried that and no good.
I even tried to format a disk and it said that it did not format.
I ran a troubleshooter and it says to uninstall the floppy and then restart and see if the machine will see a new devise.

Re: Floppy drive ?

My money is on the drive is shot. I upgraded my system from ME to XP a month ago and drive was operating fine. Maybe one of the grand kids used a chocolate chip cookie as a floppy. As you mentioned if you dont need it dont worry about it. It is a standard floppy drive which has not changed in years so you can probably pick one up from a used computer store for about 10 bucks.
