Adobe Acrobat Reader Question?

The wife has a 3.5 mb PDF file that she would like to copy a section of, paste it to a word file and send it to a diskette. It doesn't seem that you can highlight and copy anything from a pdf file? Anybody aware of any workarounds? And no we don't want to transcribe it. There are no monks in this family. :p

Workaround??? Hmmmm....Yes

Try this... Link

If that fails, there's another way that works a treat, but it takes a bit of work (not hard) to get it done.

Now stay with me for just a bit.....

Up until now, you've probably fought the urge to learn about uploading files to your own storage space at your ISP. They give you storage space for free. All you need to access that space is an FTP program. FTP (File Transfer Protocol), this one,is free. FTP Program

Anyway, here's how this works.
You upload the PDF file to your storage space (ex: myfile.pdf) using Smart FTP
You go here Link and tell this web page 'where your file is stored' (your storage space)
example: http://home.comcast.net/~boomyal/myfile.pdf

The web above page converts it into a text file and displays it in your web browser as a text
You then hi-lite all of the text and right click
Hit Copy from the little menu that opens

Open Notepad or MS Word and right click again, this time select Paste

Your original PDF file is now a text file to edit as you wish.

There are software packages that you run that will print PDF files directly to text files, I use one myself.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, you can use your storage space to host your own picture files too. You don't have to worry that the picture hosting site will change their policy about externally linking to the pics, you host your own. If you do Ebay, you can host your own auction pics as well, at no extra charge...

If you find a website that will store your file ( the pdf file), like Photobucket does (they only host pic files), then u/l the pdf there and run the above link to convert the file.

Boomyal,
Maybe this will work, at least temporarily during the free 15 day trial use period...

There may be a limit on the number of pages you can convert with the trial program though...

http://www.solidpdf.com/

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader Question?

I have Adobe Reader 7.0 and under the "edit" section of the program it allows me to "copy to the clipboard" the full open .pdf file which can then be pasted to Word for editing.

I just downloaded the Adobe 7.0 Reader for free last month after getting an automatic upgrade
notice from them while using my prior version.

Hope that helps.

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader Question?

Follow these steps:

1st - create a word document to copy to.

2nd - open pdf and look at the menu. Find the icon that says "select text". Left click on this icon.

3rd - go to the part of the text you want to copy. Left click on your mouse and drag from the first to the last part of the document you want to copy. Once hilighted, right click and select "copy to clipboard".

4th - go to your word document and right click your mouse. Select "paste"

Now your all done. Go to the kitchen pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy being a hero in your wife's eyes. She can now edit the document in the word document.

Good Luck.

Warhorse, thanks, that worked beautifully for me. The only thing different was I did not find the "select text" but rather the "select all" button. I selected all of the text and then went back to the edit function and then the "copy" feature showed available. All I had to do then was copy and paste it into Word.

Thanks again for the information. I will use it often.
