Recently purchases a 97 XLT.

The dome lights stay on unless the switch is mid position and the door adjar tone beeps while the key is inserted (ignition off) with the door closed.

Being old school, I can't locate where the door switch is, as I understand it is near the latch and not near the hinges, where they have been for the last 80 years.

I recenlty purchased a truly worthless Haynes manual, which completely ignores this function even in the wiring schematics

Any help appreciated.

Re: Ford Ranger Door switch

Its inside the door. Mine done the same thing. Step son was a ford mech and he set me on this, take it to the car wash and open the door and thorouly wash the latch area with the pressure washer wand, after washing, soak it down with greaseless lubricant from an ariesol can, trying to penetrate as much of the latch area as possible.. It worked for me and I havent had any trouble for over a year.
The factory latches and switches had a grease on them that attracted dust, which gummed up.
You cant see what your washing but enough of the presure wash gets in to clean the old grease and dust off. Hope It works for You like it did me.
