I have an '83 Bayliner Capri, I wanted to remove the 2 fold down lounge chairs and replace them with 2 swivel fishing chairs. My question is how do you remove the old seats?? I stripped the carpeting and the seat cushions but I don't see any bolt holes or mounting brackets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

rtw.....your lounge seats should be bolted inside the box, extend the lonnge seat into a bed, then lift the end of the seat and look inside the box, should be 1 bolt in each corner. hope that helps

And the boxes these seats are mounted on, are usually fiberglassed-in. You may opt to leave them in,and making a thick hatch or cover for them, and mount the swivel seats to this hatch. That would require a strong, reliable latching mechanism tho,as you wouldn't want it unlatching at the top of a wave, with you and seat both airborne

I have a slightly newer Bliner capri with lounge seats in it. I needed to replace them, and gave a lot of thought to doing what I just sugjested you do...Too much werk for me. I just bought new ones, and installed them...All done, comfy, and back to fishin.

I'm planning on replacing the decking at the same time so if they're glassed in it shouldn't be that bad. Could the bolts be under the glass? I thought of mounting the new seats to the boxes but I want the room behind there so I can mount a cooler and live well back there. I guess I should have started this a little earlier in the year.

Re: removing lounge seats???

I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri with the fold down lounge chairs. I want to remove them and add captains chairs.
Today I pulled up the carpet around the riser boxes the seats are mounted on and these boxes are 100% fiberglassed in with the floor.
Can I just take a sawzall and cut at the base of these boxes to remove them?
I am NOT doing any other floor repairs other than the seats I cut out.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hello and welcome to IBOATS..... In the future please don't resurrect old dead threads.... start a new one....

I suspect that yes you could easily do that.... I suggest cutting 1/4" above the floor and using a 40 grit flap disc on a 4" angle grinder to finish... make sure you wear goggles and a mask when cutting and grinding fiberglass
