Hi, I'm new to the boating world, my wife's grandfather gave me a 1968 14' fiberglass boat with an old evinrude outboard, I think that he just wanted to get it out of his driveway and has now taken up resadance in my garage. This is going to be quite a time consuming project for me to get going. The hull seems solid but after sitting for at least 7 years some water has made it's way under the floor, I can hear a little slosh back and forth as I lift the trailer toung. The engine is now in many pieces on my workbench while I look for a parts supply house in the local area. I look forward to consulting this board for the questions that I am sure to have.
Thanks in advance. :D
BJC

Re: Hello All

Hi BJC,

welcome to the board..

A more knowledgable bunch of lads (and ladies) you will not find.

I'd start by checking out the transom and stringers if I were you, a boat thats had water in it for 7 years may well need to have the wooden stringers and transom replaced,, thats a biggish job, and may not be worth the effort depending on the rest of the boat..

If the motor was working when it was parked, there was probably no need to strip it, there are hundreds of stories on this list about motors that hadn't run for years and fired right up with a carb cleanin and a new impeller for the water pump..

anyway, good luck and have fun.

regards

frank
