I went out to start repair on the rental but after loading the truck and trying to put her in gear the clutch pedal stayed on the floor but would not disengaged. Any quick fixes on this one?

Fill the clutch master cylinder with fluid (brake fluid) and then pump the he!! out of it, Ford say about 100 times to get a pedel. Bleeding may or may not be necessary. If it's empty there is a reason for it, they dont use the fluid up.

An 83 has mech linkage with a z bar. You may try to jerk the pedal up and down a couple of times or crawl underneith and tap on the bellhousing/linkage with a hammer. It sounds to me like the throwout bearing is stuck.

Thanks Ken, Jerking the pedal worked for a while but the the Slave cylinder gave out completely. Good thing it not a newer model where the slave cylinder is inside the transmission.

I thought the emancipation proclamation outlawed those type of cylinders back in 1863? :p ;)
Have you checked the headlight fluid? Muffler bearings??

Looks like I was mistaken, I could have sworw that an 83 did not have a hydralic system. My 89 has hyd inside the tranny. Its been leaking for about two years now and the new one is in the trunk of my car. I refuse to change it till I'm walking.

Just to let you know the out come. I turned this problem over to my idiot son (the mechanical one) and after changing both the master and slave cylinder he found that an o ring in the slave cylinder was leaking and though there was still fluid in the system the leak was enough to cause complete failure over time. Well at least I am not out the labor.
Good luck Ken.
