I have a 1993 Ford Crown Vic 4.6L V8. I started it up today and it wont idle. It revs up to normal idle and then almost dies then back up to normal idle. It will keep doing this until I put it in gear then it will idle fine. It does this hot or cold.

I have removed the Idle Control Valve and cleaned it but no diffrence.
I have inspected all the vacuum lines and they are all good.

Pcv valve is fine.

Any help would be great. Thanks

Is there a way to test the IAC before I throw parts and money at it.

Ok I have a manuel and I will test what I can. It only says that there should be 10.5 volts to the IAC. If that checks out and the unit is clean how do I know that it is realy bad and its not something else?

Also it seams at times while driveing the car loses power but when I press the gas more it go just fine?

Will the IAC cause this. I'm tring to rule out other thing before I buy all these parts.

Look at your throttle butterfly also. If it is sticky, or held slightly open from dirt, the IAC can't control the idle.

Ok guys I got it fixed. WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO It turns out it was The PCV valve. I looked at it before anything else but didn't realise it was sticking. I will install a new one today.

Thanks for the help.

Hey I have a nice clean IAC now.

Thansk again.

Good. My next thought was vacuum leak. Which a stuck PCV is.
