I was talking a couple of months ago about getting a new, used snowmobile and I finally got around to getting her home over christmas. Now since we have no snow I have yet to use it. But 5 of us are going to the UP of Michigan along the shores of Lake Superior for a weeks snowmobile trip. We are leaving a week from saturday. Getting psyched.

Re: Picked up my new toy.

Wow! Nice looking sled, what's it's particulars?

Last time I took my wife out, she stepped off into knee deep snow and tried a "ball-of-foot" pivot like you would when getting out of your car on hard pavement.... well the upper half of her knee turned. She tore ligaments. We were a looonnnnggggg way from help, so we raced outta there, made a long drive into Malad, Idaho (we were on a vacation up there).

As it turns out, Malad has a building that appears to be staffed with medical people that they call a hospital.

While waiting for the Dr in our semi-private room, the young lady in the less-than-private room next door was 8 months pregnant, had fallen down a stairwell, and the Dr was examining her privates. Needless to say, I wanted to pack up and head out right then and there when he began asking the nursing staff if "can anyone see her cervix, I can't see it". When her mouth began to fill up with blood, they inserted the suction tube from the wall-mounted unit into her mouth so she wouldn't suffocate.... the suction didn't work... luckily the ambulance crew that brought her in were still outside, so they brought in their portable suction and saved her from drowning, then promptly loaded her up and headed for Salt Lake City.

Dunno why I told you that, but I saw that sled and those memories rushed back, wonderful looking sled, hope it's fun, wear a helmet and enjoy it!!!!

I am envious Pointer. Nice sled. Our annual trip (we rent) was canceled due to too much snow . . . I never thought that I would care that much, but frankly those things are flippin' fun!!

Edit: BTW, when I saw this thread title I was sure it was EE again . . . :D

Looks like your ready for hours of fun. Try and get some seat time in before the big ride. And remember play safe, dieing can ruin your day.

looks good pointer. thought i would let you know there is alot of snow in the lakewood, townsend area. i am not snowmobiler myself but we were up last weekend the trails looked pretty busy. saw the groomer working at night. i shoveled from the out house to the deck and it was about 2 feet deep. amazing how big a difference a 90 minute drive can be.

Re: Picked up my new toy.

She's a 1999 ski-doo mach 1 with a 3 cylinder rotax engine. It has an aftermarket M10 rear suspension for a smoother ride, simmons front ski's and a racing exhaust. It has 2100 miles and I can't find a blemish anywhere. It was made up to be a high speed - long distance cruiser. The engine should be making about 150hp according to my mechanic and should top out at about 115 mph. I mean it when I say, I will never find out.

Thanks for the update FSHKPR! I want nothing more than to go for a long ride to get the feel of her.

Never say never Pointer. Just wait out there some where will be a wide open lake, ice as smooth as glass, just a dusting of snow, next thing ya know yer out'a throttle, nothing left as the lake passes under you at 110+MPH. :) :)

Re: Picked up my new toy.

dsrchamp, I sold it to a friend of mine back in the 90's. He still has it and I believe it is a 1963/64 alpine.

I doubt it very much. This guy keeps everything. If I see him I'll ask for you.

Boy Pointer, I sure hope thats not your first sled! That is one mean machine, Ski Doo's fastest/biggest/baddest sled that year. I have a "little" 583cc Ski Doo and I get from one end of the lake to the other at a little over 100 mph, when the lakes are smooth 100 mph is a walk in the park you will hit triple digits with that just be carful especially if its your first sled :)

Re: Picked up my new toy.

OK,

Well the trip went well and I managed to put on over 1000 miles in just 4.5 days. We were based out of Munising MI and had a total of 8 in the group. I got to bring my brother along and we had a blast. I really thought I would be sore but I really feel great. Hands are a little sore from the first 200 miles of death grip.

Johnshan1 you are right, picks on the track might prevent the slight fishtailing you get over 70. I made it to almost 90 (they claim 120mph top end but only 115mph with the M10 suspension)and I called her quits. The M10 is a very comfortable suspension but as this was my first experience on a sled, I felt like that was fast enough. The lakes were not frozen and the groomers must have been on vacation. But we got about 6" of snow while we were up there and made the trails just great.

I will post pics when I get them!!!
