Volvo AQ131D and 275 Outdrive:

Found this stamped on the propeller:
C 851139

Is this a part number or year size and pitch?

As most of you know I've been suspecting my prop is not the correct size and/or pitch..

Thanks,

Scott

Just a suggestion, go to the Volvo-Penta website. From there you can establish contact with the factory, or a dealer, who can give you the correct advice.

Re: Propeller number?

I emailed a gentleman at Midwest Propellers and this was his response, what does this sound like to you all, normal or too (something or another)....?

Scott, according to my book, that prop is a 14 diameter by 21 pitch.
.
.
.
.

According to the michigan wheel cross reference chart - it's a 14x21 RH.

But my question is, is that normal for a 275 outdrive driven by a 2.3l 4 cylinder?

Or is it too much prop?

thanks,

Re: Propeller number?

First, ya gotta know what your max Recommended WOT is....If the prop allows you to hit the max or within a 100RPM of it, yea, it'll do the job.
There IS NO SET PITCH for any particular set-up.
Simply run and verify data, then, your question will be aswered. :)

Re: Propeller number?

Well WOT is supposed to be 4500-4800, the mechanic locally thought 5000 but that seems a bit high.
He said off top of his head that a 14x17 would be good, and then Bob at Midwest Propellers just emailed me the same info.........plus they are having a sale....

So I'm going to drop to a 14x17 and run with that for a while, next spring...... :)

I still got a carb to rebuild and some TLC to give to the engine and outdrive.

Thanks,

Re: Propeller number?

Scott, 14D X 21P is too much for that poor little motor....Change it & see what it does...Why are you waiting till next spring? :p The sun is shining right now! :D Hopefully the new prop (14DX17P), will get you into the right WOT range....I would try the new prop before I did any carb work though....That way you will know exactly what its' effects are. ;) One thing at a time.....JK

Re: Propeller number?

Well I agree with ya, hate to winterize JUST yet but I've got SO much going on right now, school, being sick, work, etc......plus I'm building a bathtub racer....(You should get one and come race!)

Plus i don't HAVE a new prop yet :D But I'm going to order it, $153 new from that place I mentioned (Midwest).....

Plus I know hte accelerator pump is not working on the carb, hard to start, no gas smell, no visible gas when throttle is pressed, and I can't see it squirting.....

You still out boating then?

Re: Propeller number?

Yep, since I am FWC. I won't pull it out till the end of next month...They reopened Dungeness season, so I will go out when I can, the locks are pretty quick this time of year, and there is still plenty of crab to be had......JK

Re: Propeller number?

Well I got my prop on order, should be here by Thursday next week, and got the carb kit ordered, should be here by Tuesday.

So with any luck I'll have my boat back in teh water by SATURDAY :D at least for a trial run and to burn some gas up......then it'll get a fresh tank and get put away ;)

Don't do much crabbing myself, will do salmon fishing next year though! And then there's the bathtub races.....(Still building my boat)

Winter boating project.

Re: Propeller number?

Here's a pic of one running full speed ahead.

Mine should do bout 32-34 mph if I build it right, but the modified class can run upwards of 40mph...
