Is to go to the nearest PROP SHOP and leave deposit money as you take the props they recommend to try. Get spare cotter pins if you do not want to buy lost props. That is the ONLY way to quickly and accuratly do it.--------------------------------- Any other way takes forever.

Re: The only way to prop a boat right.

I would have to agree, I spent well over 2 months trying out propellers by ordering them online. Not to mention the hassle of trying to sell the ones you don't like.
I have a friend who went to a dealer to try props. He was given 4 different props all at once to try. Tried all 4 that day and picked the one he liked best.

The only downside was that they charged almost double the price as buying one online.

The other downside is taking the fun out of waiting for your new prop to arrive in the mail, JK

Don's Prop Shop lets us borrow what we need after he starts us in the right direction. Feels great to have a 19' bowrider accelerate at the same rate as a Alum. 12' with a 15 hp. YES.

If my 18ft Open bow accelerated like the 12ft alumicraft (with a johnny 15)I used to have, I'd be looking for a 3.6LGT insted of my 2.5L, 200.
But it IS good if you can find a prop shop that will let you try props as long as they have several manufacturers designs, other-wise, it's a biased run.

Agreed, unless the nearest prop shop is day's drive away and they also close for vacation just when you need them the most...

In any case, the ONLY way to prop a boat right is to listen to the guys who know (i.e. Walleyehed, Dhadley, a Prop Doc, the Prop Shop, etc.) and then try some props out on your specific boat...

Cyclops - you must be from my neck of the woods, as I don't there there are many "Don's Prop Shops" around....

Testing props... there are worse ways to spend a day than going for full throttle blasts, holeshots, and high speed turns in your boat...

- Scott

Just outside of Clayton, NY. And he is the BEST. Always has time to help you, even if you don't know what you are doing. They do not come any better then him.--------------I can empty my tank in 1 day "testing" for cavitation. ------------Northern Marine in Clayton is my other favorite place where spending money is fun.

Im with stevens ,everbody dosnt have a prop shop close by.

And as far as i can see kenny and dhadley are the best you can get anyway! They help you through everthing, from major problems to dumb questions.Props are just one aspect of your boat and setup theres to many varibles.Just because you can get 4 props and try them in one day dosnt get ya anywere, each prop is different with the setups so the setup has to be tested too for each prop thats 2 cents, and im very thankful for kenny and Dhadley and the others here for helping.

cyclops, did I do something to insult you in some manner?? If I did, I apologize as I have not intended to insult anyone on this forum.
I am glad for you that you have a prop shop near and a great dealer to assist with testing props...that's what the majority doesn't have but wishes they did.
I've created the same situation where I am...I carry the props and loan to those in need of help. In most cases, based on the first prop, I can nail it on the second. One advantage of having the boat at your side.

Not at all. I think you are great. A lot of people do not have a great prop shop 2 miles away to save them money and time.

Cyclops,

Dang - you've got me beat! Don's is 5 miles from me. :p

But I'm only 1/2 mile from Chalk's and the owner is my neighbor, so there is my "in"... :D

Yeah, Don's a good guy. As is his Dad - finest machinist I know... They've done quite a few of my props over the years (my wife is still learning the River... the HARD way!)

- Scott

It helps that I have about 200 props in the garage.

Chinewalker I stay at Lawrence View Park on Rt. 12. It is 1/2 mile before Pier 65. I support Chalk's when I repair the other peoples OB's. Great bunch of fishing and party people. It doesn't get any better.

Gee Dhadley, you must have had one heck of a time getting the setup right on you boat using 200 props. ;) :D :)
