I have a 1974 70HP evinrude and i bought a tach and put on it and at wide open throttle it tachs 5600RPM. Reason i Purchased a tach was because i am in need of a new propeller. Mine is aluminum and is in very rough shape. Is taching 5600 rpm fine for this motor or should i try to get a different size/type of prop? I was going to just change the prop to a stainless steel same pitch and diameter but i wasnt sure what my wot rpms was. Right now the boat run 29mph on water if i add a stainless steel prop with the same pitch and diameter will it increase my speed? or should i just go with another aluminum?

not a prop specialist, but if you are getting good performance with what you have, just replace it. save the bucks for gas. to me that shiny prop is just more BLING.

Once you remove it, hopefully there will be some numbers stamped into the hub. Otherwise, if you can post a picture of it, there are those here that can narrow it down pretty good...

I agree on keeping what you have if you are happy with it...i.e. buy an exact replacement.

Mark
