I have been reading with a lot of interest about all of you guys that have problems with props frozen on the shaft. I was the lucky guy that got a new old boat with the same problem. 1971 18' Hourston Glasscraft, 3.0LX 1995? Mercruiser complete repower (leg included)in 1997? I got the boat from a budy that (inherited) got the boat with a property deal, consequently he gave me a pretty good deal on the boat. It also came with a 7.5 Honda kicker that I have not even looked at yet.

Anyway, on the first trip on water with the boat, after just seeing if it would run properly, here is the list of repairs so far.

1.0) Major clean-up
2.0) Check fluids and start motor
3.0) Take for a run
4.0) Add to repair list

The boat barely made it to plane, and would not run past 3100 rpm. I suspect bad gas. It supposidely had Stabil put in the tank, but I doubt it.

Just as I got to almost plane the second time, the revs went up, and the boat slowed down.

As some of the guages are not working, I was worried about overheating, but after the 20 minutes running on the lake, both idling and at higher revs, I can still touch the fresh water side without burning my hand...I would guess about 140 degrees.

Back to my "frozen Prop" problem, I read this forum for a week, weighed my options, and then decided to talk to the local prop shop.

Gary, the owner of the prop shop loaned me his custom made "prop puller" free of charge and quoted me $ 140.00 for an exchange or rebuild of my existing prop if it came off okay. The prop puller had that prop off in less than 3 minutes flat, and I did not [/LIST] have to beat on the prop anymore at all. Cool!!!

Anyway....thanks for letting me put in my .02.

Now I can get fishing and worry about the work on a complete re-wire job, new canvas, stringer/floor repair and paint job after the summer season.

Good thing it is a short summer up here in Canader on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. I will get to start work on the rest of the repairs soon, as the ice will start to get to thick to launch and get out of the harbour by the end of September. Thank God for snow machines!!!(and Capt'n Morgans)

BB
