Another Newbie question:

I need a new prop, likely 2.

My dealer wants $205 (Can) for a prop, I assume OEM.

Is this prop any better than a Michigan Wheel, or any other after market prop?? Seems like a huge difference is $$.

AND what is the difference between cupped and uncupped props??

Re: Prop Manufacturers

On cupped props, the trailing edges of the blades have a curled lip that increases pitch and holds the water better in chop and turns. The prop prices here on iboats are downright phenomenal. I really don't know of a bad prop manufacturer. Michigan Wheel is probably the only one that makes more props than Merc.

Re: Prop Manufacturers

Find out the make, model, pitch, size etc. If your dealer is worth it (goes the extra mile for you) pay the price. If not, load that info on the internet and get it for possibly less. Only trial and error, and being carful to match the WOT rated for the motor will get you the right performace regardless of price or who you bought it from.

We want to reach the right WOT with the correct prop for your rig. There is no such thing as a "general" replacement...

Good question.

I can't say I haven't had the boat in the water. The prop is bad and I showed infinite patience waiting to replace it first.

Re: Prop Manufacturers

This is one advantage of buying from a good dealer - ours will let you exchange the prop if it isn't the correct pitch (assuming, of course, it is not damaged or scratched up!)

The way I see it - since initial prop. selection is so important, I would rather buy one correct prop. (and I don't mind paying more since it comes with hours of good advise!) than 2 or 3 wrong props.

I am a newbie to all of this, so who knows, in a few years I may want a collection of props. for different purposes, but until then, I just want the right one - no lugging, no over-revving.

Besides, we spend a lot of time in rivers and shallow lakes, so I'm sure we will grind a few up and will have plenty of prop. business to spread amongst the various sellers and repairshops!!

Shaun

Re: Prop Manufacturers

Lets follow thru with the other post first and double check the tach setting. IE -- lets not throw money at a prop. Yet.
