Came across a 2004 Lund 1700 SS side console boat for silent auction and would like any input you may have. Boat has an 18" x 1 1/2" gash thru outer skin above waterline on port side. Boat has been stripped of everything but steering wheel. All controls, seats, gauges, electronics etc are gone. Boat looks like it has never been in the water (was in an automobile accident while on the trailer). If I could get this thing cheap enough do you think the gash is repairable. Not concerned about cosmetics, only to make it sea worthy. Have a 40 HP mariner that I could power this with but it may be too small. Any thoughts ? Will it be worth the trouble ?

Sounds like a nice project. I used to have a 20' Lund Alaskan. Lots of potential there. Could set it up the way you want. I'd have an aluminum guy make a nice patch up ane either rivet or weld it into place. The 40 will get you around but I'm sure you'll get the fever for some hp. Just guessing, under $1000 go for it. Good luck. Keep us informed.

Is it this
boat?

Being from Canada, I'm sure you know the reputation that Lund carries. Go for it!

Lund makes some very good hulls. As long as the gash didnt do any structural dammage I would be all over it. You never know with these auctions. I too would give $1000.00 for it but it may go for 200.00 or $2000.00. Never know... Good luck

Looks like some hefty damage to the port corner of the transom.
Structural damage ???

And the snow and rain damage.
hard to tell how bad the trailer is.

Thanks for the input.
Ed F this is the very same model but not the same boat. The one I am looking at has the damage about midway between the bow and stern about 12" from the upper edge running parallel to the water line. I am new to boating so I am not aware of boat reputations good or bad. Where does Lund fit in there ?
Concerned about the replacement costs of the seats, instruments etc as well as the ability of my 40HP to get that thing on plane. I've got a 13ft whaler style boat now and it will do 35MPH easily with the 40 on it. Can also pull tubers and skiers without any problem. Does anyone know what kind of performance I might expect on the larger boat ? Thanks again.

Rod,

Lund has a fine reputation.

I would not expect to replace seats and so forth with genuine Lund products, it will cost you a fortune.

There are plenty of generic products out there that will be serviceable.

The 40 would be a bare minimum for a hull like that. I wouldn't expect much of anything out of it. Especially with more than one person on board.

Thanks DJ. Think I will pass on this one then. This is the perfect sized boat for what I want but I can't afford a new motor and fit out the boat as well.

lund has a great reputation. Get a professional welder to repair the gash and then outfit the interior with non brand name equipment. shouldnt cost that much. use the mariner for now and when you can afford it buy something bigger. the expensive part would be the motor controls gauges etc. but if you plan on using that motor on any boat you would have to buy those. I strongly recomend the lund.
Love my Lund.
