Hi folks,

I'm planning a vacation for a few weeks to come and visit my brother and his family in Denver Co during December 2003. Being my first visit to the US, I would love to get some fishing in as well. As I'm only starting to put together an itinery, can anyone suggest a few good spots to try. I realise that it is winter in your neck of the woods but I imagine that there must be a couple spots one could try?

I look forward to hearing a few suggestions.

Thanks :)

Hi, Rude African.

I think your post would get better attention in the Fishing Forum, so I am going to move it there.

Good luck. :)

I'd do a little research on the subject to make your trip enjoyable and safe. I'm from Maine and the winters get pretty cold up here. But with snow pack levels of 12 inches, sometimes not cold enough to provide for safe ventures out on the ice. Just yesterday a man and his son fell through on an all terrain vehical. God must of been with them because they both lived. This usually isn't the case. You only have around two minutes to get your self out of the ice before your muscles start to loosing strenght. Here's a link that might be helpful. http://wildlife.state.co.us/fishing/index.asp
 God bless and enjoy!

Ahoy, Rude African.

Were I planning your visit I would look into stopping for a few days in south Florida. The weather is pretty dependably pleasant there in December and both fresh and salt water fishing are excellent.

Good luck. :)

hmmmm... Florida sounds great right now!
if you can't stop elswhere, there will be some
very good trout fly fishing avail. Colorado isn't
as cold/snowbound as many think, except for the
higher elevations. can probably put you in touch
with a guide out there if interested.
good luck,
M.Y.

Re: Fishing spots in December??

Thanks guys,

Apologies for my delayed response, took a couple of days off and headed to my favourite fishing spot on lake St Lucia, a saltwater estuary on the eastern seaboard of South Africa. Had a great time and the fishing was good. Only problem was the heat. Man, sitting in a boat all day in the scorching sun with the temp around 40 degrees celsius (104 F) is not for the faint hearted!

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll most definately head towards Florida for one. Having only had snow in this country twice in 40 years, I can safely say that I do not think I'll be trying much ice fishing. :) Sort of a fair weather person I am! The small streams sound good so I'll look into that as well.

As I said before, my itinary is very open and flexible, other than having to spend a few days with the family, I can travel wherever there's a chance for some good fishing so keep 'em comming.
