been searching and researching this for awhile now. Have a Evinrude 28hp outboard on my pontoon that gave me a constant alarm at the controls. I replaced the impeller and launched it and... the alarm still went off. Also, at times, the motor will run like crap at mid or higher throttle. Weird thing is, at times, i can switch gas tanks, and the alarm goes away. Also, i was getting the alarm the other day, switched tankswent... away, then ran like craphowever...., after backing out, heavy rpms, then no alarm and ran great go!... figure. Sothe... alarm and running crappy connected and?... why does the tank switch shut it off at times and?.... whats with the reverse thing making my engine run better afterwords Is?....... this thing haunted???? (please dont say headgasket) lol thanks!!!

And the year of that engine is? If you listed it, I've overlooked it.

I was afraid of that. I retired years before that engine came into existence and am not familiar with its circuitry or mechanical design. Hopefully someone will jump in here that is knowledageable of your engine and have the answer for you.

A constant alarm can also be a fuel restriction or no-oil. I'd be checking the head temps with thermomelt sticks or an infrared gun, then move into the fuel system and look for restrictions.

Also, I'm not a marine mech, just an iboats monkey see-monkey do member.

Yep, fuel restriction. The 28 is not oil injected.

Clean the filter screen on the outside of the fuel pump. It is held in place by one slotted screw head.

Also, it is time to clean your fuel tanks. It would probably be a good idea to replace the fuel hose and bulb.
