New owner of old motor

Hello all,
I am new at this, and have just purchased a very old pontoon with witha 70 70 oil Injection motor. I have no idea what year it is. I would like to service the motor by changing the lower oil, and changing the spark plugs. The motor run now, but I just want to start out with maint maint. Is there a guide to do this? Is there other things I need to do? What does oil injection mean? I do not see an external reservoir resivore for oil. The previous owner is not available for questions. Any help would be VERY welcome.

Oil injection means that there is a seperate oil tank and related systems for injecting lubricating oil into the engine; as opposed to mixing the oil in the gas.
If there currently is no oil reservoir, it could be that a former owner disconnected the system and reverted back to the older 50:1 gas-oil mixture in the fuel tank. Many people do this on early injected engines; as the injection system wasn't all that reliable.

In any case; until you're sure...I'd certainly play it safe and mix TCW-3 oil in your fuel tank at a ratio of 50:1... (a pint per 6 gallons...)

As far as a good source for maintenance routines...you really need to get a manual. A lot of public libraries have them.

I imagine you'll get a lot of help here too...

I will be getting a manual as soon as I can figure out what year this is. I bought the boat on a lark, and I am learing as i go. i have been around motors all my life, but just hate to tear something apart with out a little knowledge.

You can determine the year of the engine by the serial number. See the FAQ.

we definately need serial number to determine what motor you have to give you the correct info. if it is a 1970 70 hp it deffinately does not have oil injection. mix you gas 50-1
