I was wondering what the fuel oil mixture is on a 1974 85hp Johnson. I am guessing 50:1. Is that correct? I just ordered a manual. I couldnt find it posted anywhere on the engine. Also is there anything that you can put into the fuel to clean out the carbs, or do you have to take them off? I had it running but wont start now. Thanks a lot

Re: fuel oil mixture

50:1 is a go. Some add Seafoam to the fuel mix to help keep things clean and do a decarb but it's best to do a remove/soak etc.

Re: fuel oil mixture

BTW, spraying carb cleaner into the carb throat does nothing to clean the carbs. It can damage the cylinder walls as it washes the oil from the cylinders and provides no lubrication.
