4hp head gasket

can someone tell me the torque specs for a 1978 4hp. Do you use any gasket sealer on a new head gasket?

You should torque to 60-80 INCH lbs. Start at middle and continue in a circular pattern, 1st at half tension , then again at full torque. Be sure to square up the deck and head before replacing gasket with a good straightedge. Clean head passages as needed to remove any crud too. Gasket is usually marked for not needing any sealer.
