I picked up a bunch of weeds around my motor intakes. Should have known when I didn't get up on plane as quick as usual I had a bunch of weed around the water intakes. Alarm goes off before I know it - running hot. I immediately put the pieces together and get the weeds away from the intakes, but as soon as I turn the key - alarm sounding.
Rather than risk it I put the trolling motor down and wait for the engine to cool down - 1/2 hour later finally turn the key and no alarm. Boat starts up fine and back to the launch to head home.
Question - would I have been OK if I had just left her running with the alarm on once I cleared the cabbage from the intakes? Would the water pump have cooled it down faster than letting it sit for 1/2 hour? Could I have done damage if I ran with the weed cleared and the alarm going off?
Thanks.
