Re: Merc 1976 trim limit switch leads

So I looked it over and the wires are routed thru the transom with a two bolt plate that I can't access without, it seems, removing the drive and bell housing. Any one know of a simple method Im' not thinking of? I've used every wrench and extension and knuckles I have. Even if I got the bolts off I dont' think I could get them back on. I have some tools and little mech. knowledge. Im' not sure if I should tackle a drive removal. I dont' have the $ to pay the shop right now. Please let me know if there is a simpler way. Would the boat be fine on the water till winter if I disconnect them? Seems like they weren't' functioning anyway.

yes, don't use the trim limit switches 8)
mine have been disconnected on mine, which is also a 1976, for the past, hmmm, 15 years.
Just know that when you're cruising, that you can trim too far up. It shouldn't be a big deal, you'll know when trimming up that you are going too far. In my opinion it's a function that costs way too much considering it's intended purpose.
