After you get it fixed up you'll have to take a trip south to SW Florida and take me and missus' out for a cruise. Why not? Sounds fun to me!

Nice find...Wish that could happen every day! BTW, Made it Phoenix...and yes...I ended up putting the new shifter cable in Pilotkeith's 2850 Contessa...$#@@$#@

Only took an hour and it ran great. Had two days out on the lake with no problems....At least he's fried now too...!!!! Probably Don's & your fault...lol

Ayuh,....... It's been All Consuming for Me for the last 2,+ 1/2 Weeks....................

The day I bought it,.. I knew it needed a Bellows, which of course turned into Both Bellows,+ the 2 Steering Bellows as well......
Today I sit here in the Daylight because I'm Still Waiting for the Right Bellows,.... Just 1,....
The other side is All Done.....And of course the Steering Bellows,+ Abunch of other Things.......

The Up-Side is I've met some of the "Ole Timers" who've maintained these boats up here on the River for 40 Years or More.......
"Skip", the former 1/2 Owner of the now Defunt "Remar Shipyard",+ Full Time Wrench has taken me under his wing,+ lead me thru the Ins& Outs of these Chrysler/ Dana Drives.....

So,............ If anybody has Any Questions on these Beasts,...... I'm Available................d

I Still haven't even put a Wrench on the Motors,........
But,.... I've got a couple of Guys on Jetskis,+ my 12' rowboat converted to a 12' 5hp Tugboat,.....
We're going to just Float it the 150yd.s or so from the Launch to My Dock.......
The Guy with the Hyd. Trailer is just Waiting for me to call him,..... Maybe by this Saturday,..??.....

I'll be curious to hear the condition of those drives Bondo. I'll bet they are in pretty good shape. I've always said that current drives look more complicated than they need to be and have more problems than a good design would have. What we have today is due to marketing not quality and durability.

You're Right Boomyal,.......
All the Shafts are 1,+ 1/8th"s, or larger,......
It holds 9,+ 1/2Qts of Oil,..... Talk about Lubrication,+ Cooling......
And,..... These things have an Engine mounted Automatic Hyd. Disc Clutch,...... As you move the shifter,....it Disengages the clutch,+ the drive shifts,.... No Banging,.. No Clunks,..... Just a nice Quiet beginging of Motion.....

My Favorite Thing about these Dana Drives,....... Is the # of "Special Tools" needed to service them.........
To get the Drive Off the Boat is takes 3 Tools......
A 3/16" Pin Punch,.......
A 1/2"X Long"s Drift Punch,.....
And,....... A BFH..........................

This is what it takes to Reboot,+ hang a drive,........
It's held on with 2 Pins,+ the Pins are held in-place with a couple of 5/16" tapered pins......

This is Just before I popped this 1 On..........

Here's another view of the event About to Happen.......

And,..... Here's the Done Deal,.....

Now,..... I took my time with this 1, being my 1st,.......
But,.... I think I could do these in Less time than I can Drop,+ Reinstall an Alpha........

Oh,...... The Best Part,.......
There's No Alignment Issues to Check,........
The Clutch Housing is Dialed into the Engine Block,+ the Pivit Housing bolts to It,.....
Then the Drive is hung on That..... Alignment is Done before you even drop the motor into the Boat................

I guess that stroker is going to stay on the back burner. :'(

It seems like "easy to work on" was a design goal that didn't survive the '70's. :'(

Man, that right there is reason enough to love those drives. If it wasn't for the weight and cost, this should be the only way to make these things. It blows my mind what piles of carp all of these modern I/O drives are. I need a flippin' gimbal ring on my Bravo 1 and it only has 300 hours on it. Apparently the previous owner didn't torque the U bolts, but still what a crap design that you need to repace the whole ring for a wear item and this is only a 320 bhp unit! Just one of a bunch of design flaws ??? I guess they get parts revenue from them . . .

Sorry, I digress, nice find if you never even run her. I'd put her in a slip just for a place to sleep. Awesome!Even came with books to read . . .
