hey folks,

been having trouble with my oil injection on my 1994 200sws, replaced filter on remote tank and and it worked for awhile. now i have another problem (no oil transfer again) i can't hear motor pumping in remote tank and when i toggle the emergency switch with ignition on the alarm sounds. previously when i hit the toggle it did not make the alarm sound. another question is i recently install a new yamaha digital tach rigging kit and it has three oil icons and three bars beneath the icons. i noticed that sometimes the center bar blinks. when i purchased the new rigging kit it did not come with any instructions so i don't know what the bars mean....(there are not colored lights on the oil icons. any help would be appreciated........

thanks, stoney

Re: still no oil transfer

center bar blinking means either the remote tank is low,the ground path is open or the switch is bad. as long as that condition exists automatic oil transfer is prohibited.
check for 12V on the brown wire at the tank with the key on then check the ground path for the pump, the blue wire is the groundfor the pump and is made by the ECU or manual switch. check the grond path for the black wire as well. the black red is the feed for the remote tank switch. one bar means all is well center bar means remote tank is low, all three flasing means someting is very wrong.

I had a similar problem - no oil to the onboard tank. It was the sensor switch on the onbard oil tank that was not reading when the tank was low, therefore no pumping from the auxilary oil tank. The switch was about $50 and took about 15 minutes to replace.

I have this problem right now, am about to replace oil line filter between auxilary tank and onboard tank but also sounds like sensor cud be prob. I have all three bars blinking, does that shed any additional light? Thx.

Re: still no oil transfer

3 bars blinking means the engine oil tank is low or the sensors black/red lead(could be blue/red) is grounded someplace.
however if the system is working auto transfer occurs .
you MUST test the remote tank switch and wireing. if the switch or wiring is open the system will assume the remote tankis low and prohibit transfer.
if the manual switch does not turn the pump on you MUST find either the pump problem or wiring, the brown wire to the pump is 12Vpositive anytime the key is on and the blue is pump ground controled by the ECU or the emergency switch.
if the trim sender is not working it can inhibit auto transfer but not impede manual transfer.
do you use this in saltwater
do you have a DVM?

Re: still no oil transfer

Cpl additional questions, if onboard oil tank is low or empty, will it fill itself if all is well or does it need to be filled seperately? Also, regarding sensor above, where do I find it? I have 2001 Yam HPDI 150's. Looked on Yam diagrams, but could not locate...thx!

Re: still no oil transfer

if the system is working correctly the oil will transfer automatically from the remote tank to engine tank.
depends on which switch you need the remote tank switch or the engine tank switch.
they are easy to test but you need a service manual and a DVM.

DVM? Where will I find manual switch for remote tank? I'm only fresh water.
Thx

Re: still no oil transfer

Would these sensors also be known as "oil level gage assembly" and do you need a special tool to remove from onboard tank or does it just pop off? Does not seem to come right off and do not want to force it. Thx

Re: still no oil transfer

DVM is a Digital Volt Meter.
on your HPDI the manual transfer switch is on the fwd edge of the engine oil tank.
its a gray colored rubber booted toggle switch.
a quick check of the system can be done with the key on engine off and the remote tank at least half full.
turn the ign to on,cut the tie stap on the clear vynil hose(water trap) on the bottom of the engine tank. remove the trap and allow the engine oil tank to drain until the alarm sounds.
oil will transfer and the tank should refill and shut off in less than 180 seconds.
this will test the system quickly.
under normal conditions (above test is an ABNORMAL condition) oil will not transfer unless the engine is running.
thats the problem with thread jumping, the wire colors I posted for stoney are not applicable to HPDI.
thats why we encorage each poster with a problem to start their own thread.
makes it way less confusing.

Re: still no oil transfer

just makes life easy :):)
since the introduction of precision blend yamaha's in the US there have been roughly 4 major changes in the wirieng colors, transfer methods and alarm set/reset. with many minor changes tossed in.
it can get to confusing
I watched a tech test the system on a 95 200 for 2 hours before I looked at his manual. he was using the 96 maual.
guess what? all his tests failed.
the 96 up systems wont transfer unless the motor is running on the V6. you can short the leads to ground all you wish but unless the ECU gets a running signal it wont transfer.
it will transfer if the remote tank is full and the engine tank empty with key on engine off, however that is an abnormal condition and it will only transfer 180 seconds.
so if you have an issue start a topic. and remember to post the engine model number :):)
