This is a tricky one I hope you can help me with:
The good;
Starts well cold, accelerates well, idles nice and quiet, pushes my 14.5 up to 30 mph, doesnt smoke...
The bad:
Once warm, if idleing for more than three minutes (ie: trolling) it will start to sputter and finally die - if I am right on it, I can hit the choke button and it will begin to run again - If I use the fast idle lever to add about 300-400 RPM, it will run all day
Bad 2:
If I let the motor sit for a bit (drifting while jigging) it starts RIGHT away, but if you punch the throttle, or ease into it, it will die, and I have to choke/unchoke while spinning the starter for upwards of 20 seconds, then it starts - Smoking like crazy for a little bit - if you try to hit the throttle it will die right away - the only thing that works is 30 seconds of high speed running with the lever, then return to idle, all is well again (til the next time)
Bad 3:
If I am approaching to dock, and want to hit reverse to ease me in, (I am idleing to the dock) then enter reverse and braaaa. stalls - no use starting it and having to rev for another 30 seconds *sigh* I just get the oars out.

I hope I have included all the symptoms to illustrate my frustrations - to date:
Fresh fuel, new fuel pump and check valves, new hose with ne bulb, stays hard all the time, I even tried pumping up bulb when stalls - no effect. The merc dealer said compression is good, new plugs, carbs removed, cleaned and float levels set (checked twice) new fuel filters, (2 carb) motor is dry and appears to have no leaks at all - new impeller 2 years ago, symptoms were apparent then as well. all hoses at engine checked for collapsing - no apparent trubbles. The only replaced internal part found was a cracked idle tube - replaced.

Here is the kicker - when it is in the tub at the merc repair shop (now closed) it will idle for an hour in there! 3 minutes in the lake -
I dont get it. Thanx in advance to any and all suggestions:'(

Carbs look to sync at the butterfly, and I took carbs out to check float level again - exactly where they should be - any thoughts?

when you did the carbs, did you use a rebuild kit, or just put them back together> do you have a tach. should idle in gear at 650 to 750. if you don't hahe a tach, you can use an induction timing light, that has the tach feature.

I used a rebuild kit that included everything , not the diaphragm only patch kit. Has needles, idle tubes, screens, gaskets - the works!

email me i will send you the linc and sinc procedure for inline motors, this puts the carb in sinc with the engine electrical timing. could have been thrown off messing with carbs. in the email tell me you need linc n sinc.
