I am looking for another boat. I have a 18ft century Bronco that is nice but scares me a little in the bay. I bought a chriscraft 182(?) that has a slightly higher stern and is also wider. I like the chris craft, but, as I am getting it in shape, I also see that some of the older Four Winns have a nice tall stern to keep the waves out. Some look like they have 3-4(?) feet distance from the drive (above the gimbal housing). I like the idea of a high back end and high sides. Cuddy's are well known for tall sterns, but, I am more concerned with wide open space than a cramped sleeping compartment.

Now keeping in mind the layout of these runarounds, does anyone have an opinion of which 19ftr's have the highest stern/sidewalls and uses mercruiser power? If so, please let me know so I can check them out, thanks.

I/O powered fishing boats would likely have the greatest freeboard at the transom. Unfortunately these are now rare in sizes as small as 19'. About the only thing on today's market is Seaswirl. But years ago there may well have been more choices. I think you're going to have to go look at a lot of boats. Of course a better solution is to just get a bigger boat.

Bayliner 19' 'Classic'... 'old fashioned' hull design. Lots of open space inside... one of the few still available where you can walk all the way back to the transom... (decent fishing boat)

My 1975 Gulfstream I/O also has a 37" transom height.

Re: highest stern 19ftr ??

Really silly question, but I just dont know. How is that measured, from the very bottom to the bumper rail etc......? I just have been looking at the water line, if it has one, to the bumper rail, or top of boat railing, OR from the out drive area up. I figure the outdrive has to be submerged somewhat. You could have a 150 foot tall stern, but, if there is so much weight in the back, as evidence by the placement of the drive, it could just as well not matter once it is in the water.

P.S. thanks for the replies so far.
