www.brp.com is the Johnson and Evinrude parent company web site. Good luck on proving a factory defect of 9 years ago. I find it hard to believe that BRP will honor it. I am pretty sure that sometime in the past 9 years during "recommended" maintenance that the flywheel was removed or should have been by a mechanic. Regardless.... it is always easy to blame the manufacturer.
As a side note... I check screws and bolts all the time due to the non-use of locktite. I don't thing you can do much when stainless steel bolts are in aluminum except keep them tight. If you overtighten it rips up the aluminum.
If it is a major repair and Grandfather wants to fish volunteer to row for him and be thankful he doesn't want to water ski!!
