I fired up the 10hp yesterday and it seems its not spitting out water at all so I shut off the motor right away. I know where the impeller is but how can I check to make sure its spinning? When replacing the impeller does it need to be put in a certain way?

Also does anyone know the part number for a 1960 Johnson Seahorse 10 impeller?

Nevermind I just found the part number via this site but I would like to know about seeing if the pump is working or not...

If there is any question change the impellar. A $15 piece of rubber will destroy a motor if it fails. Easy job worth the change.

Jonny - they either work, or they don't. The pump is just a housing. They go "bad", by pitting and corroding.

Got a manual for that motor? A kneepad, er uh, Seloc or Clymer manual will show you everything you need to do for the impeller/pump.

Replace the whole thing if necessary, you won't be sorry. And while ya got that lower unit off, might as well check the lube there is well...

Good luck
Rick
