I have a 1985? Evinrude yachtwin 4hp pull start and I have a few questions...

What weight gear oil do I use in the lower unit?

Where is the water pump/impeller? I think I need to replace it but I cannot find it...I have taken apart most of it...but still cannot find it...are there any sites on the web that show pictures? I have a repair manual bu it isn't helping much...I need pictures specific to the motor I am working on.

What are the right spark plugs for the motor?

The Model No. is E4BRHLCOB and the Serial No. is B100991

It says on the tag that it was manufactured in Brugge, Belgium...is this the right year?

Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Hi William

High viscosity lower unit lube is what you want. Walmart has it. The lower unit must be removed to access the water pump. The correct plugs are Champion QL86C gapped at .030. Here a pic of the lower unit with the waterpump:

Rick,

That is fantastic! Thank you very much! Where do I find the picture that you attached that will have all the names of the numbered parts showing? Thans again!

Navigate around the above link/ website. Ignore the first page asking for info, just search the catalog. All kinds of diagrams
Your motor is simple (I have a 84)
Pull the 2 bolts out of the lower. They are facing up. Rubber mallet, few taps and its in your hand. Pull the 2 screws off the impeller cover, up and off the driveshaft. Impeller MIGHT come with it. Please remember the direction of the bent vanes, so when you put the new one in, its bent the same way. This is a must (turning the prop will give a hint if you mess up)
Now, as you do this, there is a TINY "T" shaped key for the impeller. Its in the driveshaft. You lose this, it will wreck your day. Get a magnet on it and keep site of it. They grow wings. New impeller, little Vaseline on it, in and now the fun part. Putting it back on requires finesse. Driveshaft. water tube, and shift all need to go in as one. Just take your time, don't force anything, and when it goes in properly, you will feel it.

Hello everybody,
I have the same engine(Model No. is E4BRHLCOB Evinrude yachtwin 4hp 1985) and no manual, maybe somebody can tell me what kind of oil and gas ratio I have to use for this motor. As I found some info about TC-W3 if it is correct type then what ratio with gas I have to use? Any help will be appreciated.

Mike

A word of caution.

I have a 6hp 1984 Yachtwin. I found that it was vitally important to separate the lower unit from the leg at the joint at the top of the extension piece. Then separate the gearcase and extension after cleaning up the drive shaft.

The reason for this is that the drive shaft runs in a bush in the extension and will not slide through it until cleaned up. Attempts to separate at the joint between gearcase and extension results in the shaft being pulled out of the water pump with the result that the impeller key wrecks the top of the pump housing. Minor damage maybe if it is only a plastic key but serious if fitted with a genuine manufacturers impeller with a metal key. (incidentally I got a new key packaged with the impeller each time I replaced it)

Also while the lower unit is off connect a hose to the water tube and make sure you get a good flow of water through the motor. If you dont the first suspect in my experience is the grommet at the top of the water tube. #18 in the diagram posted. Unfortunately you have to separate the power head from the leg to get at that.

The diagram is one of the parts diagrams that you access via the link Scatty has given. You need to enter all the engine details, make ie Johnson or Evinrude, year, hp and finally model number ( or the nearest number if yours is not actually listed)
