merc 500 runs great but dies in gear

75 merc 500 50hp

I put a new Fuel pump,changed stators(used) fuel line and rebuilt the carbs,new primer pump. Engine runs great starts right up/revs with warm up tab up, but when u shift it it dies right out???its it something with the carbs the only thing is the idle screw says it should be 3/4 a turn out which i did should it be more???maybe floats??? please Please PLEASE help anyone

Sounds like you need a linc and synch...in other words, carbs and timing are not synchronized. I had a 73 Merc 500 and it did the same thing after I pulled and rebuilt the carbs...$50 and one link&synch later it ran like new...local marina mech did it for me.
