Hi guys
I have a OLD! OMC stern drive that has grenaded the upper gear case. Is it feasible to rebuild it or is there many around that are used? Is it hard to replace remove this?
Anyone have a pictoral or directions as to how to remove it?

Thanks in advance

I don't think anyone could answer your question re rebuild with out seeing the extent of the damage. You might be better off getting a used one that is supposed to be good. Go thru and check it out and reseal it. Parts for those are pretty expensive.

You can keep an eye on ebay. There is alot of electric shift stuff offered. I believe there were low and high profile uppers.

Re: OMC 1976 165hp upper gear case

I just picked up a new outdrive ('77) for $315 on ebay. Electric shift checked out okay, no corrosion, came with a prop...

Ebay is a gold mine for us "white anchor" owners!!!! (I was just looking for a new lower unit and a rebuilt one was going to run me $1500.00. A used (whole) outdrive was running for $1500.00 locally, so I feel pretty lucky with my purchase. I know there are a couple more on there right now... Go to www.ebay.com and search OMC Outdrive You'll find what you need there, but hurry! The good ones are few and far between!

Good luck!
