I have a 1989 225 HP Johnson that will jump in RPM from 4000 to 4500. It doesn't matter which direction I move the throttle. Either coming up or going down I cannot set the engine speed between those ranges.

Re: 225 RPM Jump

Worn throttle control, stretched throttle cable, misadjusted throttle cable, worn carb linkage to name just a few things.

I don't think it's the throttle control and the cable has been replaced. I'll check the carb linkage.
Thanks.

Re: 225 RPM Jump

Have someone move the throttle lever slowly through the entire range while you watch the linkage at the motor, paying particular attention to the timer base. If it sticks at all, you've found the problem...
