I live in NJ but I'm looking to extend the fishing season. I looked at Smith Mountain Lake last year and will go back this year. Next year I'm thinking about North Carolina or Kentucky.

Where would you go if you could live on any lake you wanted, and why?

The season may not be long BUT its big and has somewhat limited acess SO it has never turned into the 3 ring circus that many other places i have traveled to have

The St Lawrence river, I know it's not a lake but you can motor to Lake Ontario and in spots the river is so big it looks like a lake. The reason is there are so many different fish spieces including the awsome Musky! :)

I like Barnegat Bay NJ. It is 20+ miles long and provides access to the Atlantic Ocean. It can get a bit windy and storms can be an issue. But on the plus side, the salt eats away all your stuff, so you can buy new!

Seriously, the main problem with the southen lakes is the lack of air conditioning in your boat, while fishing.

I am sure the West is not in your scope, but you asked . . . I think I would pick Lake Mead. There are a couple of developments kinda on the water, but no Lakefront homes . . . Huge lake, so getting away from crowds is very easy, year-round boating, good fishing, and . . . the ability to power into the Grand Canyon.

45 minutes to 2 hours to Vegas if you get Cabin fever and major airport access if you need to get somewhere in a hurry.

I actually think I want to be nearer crowds and some younger people as we age, so the wife and I are considering Havasu long term. I am sure some will say we're nuts, but there is enough going on that we could run small businesses or whatever to keep us kickin' instead of rotting. My .02.

If you are in St. Lawrence River, is there a passageway to get to Quebec and then further east to Nova Scotia?

I'm with rottenray.....the st.lawrence...theres none better in the east.

Milkyway......the st.lawrence seperates New York from Ontairio and Quebec. So there is nothing to stop you from going into Canada. As you follow it downstream(north east) it passes through Montreal and eventually dumps into the atlantic ocean, north of Nova Scotia

Lake Jocasse in SC is very nice. Over 1000 feet deep and crystal clear. Very popular with divers. Not much development on the shores and surrounded by mountains

I would say Lake Mead as well for the same reasons as QC. If I could live on a boat on a lake it would be Lake Powell.

 Hello!
If I could live on a lake, I'd pick one with loons and lots of privacy. Know any? ....Yeah, I thought so. What planet am I from.
I used to go up north in Michigan in the early 1960s to a wonderful lake (Otsego) by Gaylord. The cottage was small, but had a fireplace, sleeping porch and tree swing. Now, when I go driving or boating past houses, all I see are McMansions! ~ Where O' where is that dream lake, cottages with privacy, loons, lots of fish, and birch trees???? OK. Keep dreaming. right?

Actually Yes, i do. Fallen leaf lake near tahoe is like that. There is a small marina and very little traffic.

I don't know about the world, but in NY it would be Seneca or Cayuga.

I'll go with the Desert Lakes (Lake Havasu, Mead and Powell) as well; just like QC and Drowned Rat. I guess I am bias, since I live in the West.

But, I think the hot desert climate and the cool Colorado river water going through it make a perfect match. Everytime I go boating in the Summer time; I always take the opportunity to jump in the refreshing cool water or just floating around with the panfish swimming around me.
Then, after a little picnic on the beach and laying down under the shade, with cold drink at hand, and fishing line in the water, now....this is what I call RELAXATION....., like this:

I would have to say Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. It's quite, clean and a great family getaway.

Everyone stay away from Logan Martin Lake in Alabama, not worth a crap. Fishing sucks, full of rude boaters, every inch of shore built on, lol. Can you guess I live on this lake.
