trim fluid question

My trim fluid is a bit low. I went to fill it and found the fluid to be gold and not red like i expected. The fluid looks like hydralic steering fluid. Is this fluid ok? The trim system works OK. I know other engines use this type of fluid. The manual says to use ATF. Should I try to change it? If so is there a way to drain the fluid?

In case it matters the engine is a 1997 90 Yamaha.

you can use ATF dexron III or the factory trim fluid, the ATF is red the trim fluid is clear/gold looking. either one will work.
